Demonstrating Tool Safety and Technical Skills - Westbrook Middle School
Knowing and understanding how to demonstrate using tools in a safe way, while also describing various techniques necessary for the art making process.
We taught these gifted students about the color wheel and color mixing. Here, I am having a conversation with a student about their color choices, and discussing a tint that they created using red and white.
Being able to demonstrate a myriad of techniques to students is another skill that is imperative to an artist-educator. Here, I am demonstrating how to perform needle felting to a group of students.
Having knowledge and the ability to speak about artists and art movements is a necessary skill in art education. In this image, I am giving a synopsis of Cannupa Hanska Lugers work which was shown in the Otherwise exhibition in the ICA to our Adventures in Arts students.
During the pre-visit, I demonstrated the sewing techniques: whip stitch, running stitch, and back stitch. And showed students my example of the final product in which I used these techniques.
Using my drawing skills, I created a final product for my handprint-pals demo and also showed how it was done in class to make the process tangible for students.
