Icebreaker
In groups creating slideshows: Three Gorges Dam( and this), One Child Policy , Taiwan (Cross Straits) Question, Climate Change (and this is amazing), or Uyghurs in Xinjiang. Start with the linked resources. These are baseline resources; be sure to include updated information from a variety of resources, including at least one documentary film. A minimum of three resources are required.
Include who, what, where, when, how, why, so what and sources information in your slideshow-- it might make sense to initially create one slide for each, creating more slides in each of the categories as needed.
Some friendly advice about using the slideshow format well:
Title slide. Create a title slide that contains the title of your presentation and your name, title, and affiliation.
Include visual information. Pictures, charts, etc make a better slideshow.
Show, not tell. Use slides to provide visual aids, to illustrate points, or provide back-up. Use your presentation to elaborate.
Brevity. Keep the content simple and concise; use a different slide for each primary idea. Using five or fewer words for each title and 20 or fewer words per slide enhances readability. Use a substantial font size-- 18 or greater as a baseline.
Reader-friendly colors and fonts. A light background will help make the slide legible and also make any slide print-outs easier to read. Black (or dark-colored) words are the easiest to read. DO NOT USE ALL CAPITALS or a complicated font, which may be difficult to read.
Practice, practice, practice. Public speaking is a learned skill!
