Assignments & Scoring
Prep and Practice
Prep and Practice assignments give students the opportunity to get feedback without penalty. Scores on Prep and Practice assignments do not count toward the final grade of a standard. Instead, scores are intended to communicate progress and show readiness for success on a Body of Evidence assignment.
Body of Evidence
Students are required to demonstrate proficiency in the course standards through their work. A Body of Evidence assignment will count towards the final grade on that standard (or standards). All of the evidence scored for each standard will be averaged together to calculate the standard’s Y1 score. Near the end of the course, the Body of Evidence will be reviewed and final standard scores will be documented using the following grade scales:
4
Exceeds the Standard and/or Shows Excellence in Quality and Rigor
3.5
Clearly meets the standard AND exceeds the standard in some way(s) and/or is excellent in some components
3.0
Meets the standard (clearly, consistently, and independently), demonstrating solid understanding, application or performance
2.5
Meets the standard, demonstrating basic understanding, application or performance
2.0
Demonstrates the ability to understand, apply, or perform some of the components of the standard
1.0
Despite some effort, is having difficulty demonstrating the ability to understand, apply, or perform any of the components of the standard
0
No evidence
Note: If the evidence does not support a positive change in score, the average calculation will stand.
Eligibility
Completing homework and classwork on time is essential to ensure a healthy and productive learning environment. As per school policy, students who do not complete assignments on time (both Prep and Practice and Body of Evidence) at a 75% completion rate will be deemed ineligible to participate in extra-curricular activities. This is in addition to passing (Y1 2.0+ course grade) three courses.
Focus on Learning
You do not have to be perfect! If you have been fully participating in the teaching and learning cycle and need more time to achieve mastery, you will be given another opportunity to try again and improve your assessment score(s) at my discretion. This may be in the form of another attempt within the next assignment, or in the form of a redo/retake. What matters most is that you learn the material. We will follow the school-wide procedure: Try Again Form
