2021 Overnight Backpacking Trip

ASTRA officers and Interact members joined together for a three day, two night backpacking trip in the San Juan Mountains. Each day they hiked around 5 miles, ending up with 15.34 miles total and 3,184 feet of elevation gain. For many of the students this was the first time on a backpacking trip, learning how to pack for camping, carrying a backpack without it hurting, eating freeze dried meals, and understanding what it's like being out in the wilderness for a couple days with only what one brought. The San Juan Hut System let us stay in the huts along the trail, Montrose Altrusa provided the food, and Black Canyon Rotary members chaperoned the trip. We had lots of time to talk, and we learned some very important leadership skills. By the end everyone developed new friendships, self confidence, and lasting memories.

2022 RYLA Leadership Camp

Members from different clubs at MHS went to RYLA, a leadership camp hosted by Rotary. There, they learned what kind of leaders they are and what qualities that make them great. They also discovered their personal disadvantages but learned ways to work around it. The 3 day, 2 night, trip consisted of many fun activities. Members got to visit the Black Canyon, hike, rock climb, and enjoy a day off at the Ouray Hot Springs. Throughout the trip everyone had many opportunities to learn about themselves as a person and how to work efficiently in a team. They left as a better version of themselves.

2022 Rafting Trip

ASTRA and Interact members were able to go on an overnight rafting on the Gunnison river summer of '22. They started at Escalante Canyon and floated for hours  down the river then stopping at a beautiful location for lunch. They went on a short hike and learned more about the history of the area. After lunch they floated down the river some more until finally reaching their designated campsite. That evening they did many leadership exercises where everyone was able to learn more about themselves and connect as a team. The trip allowed everyone to grow as a person and develop new skills.

LEADERSHIP CAMP IN AUGUST 2021

MHS clubs met for a Leadership Camp in August which introduced students to "Leaders in the New Millennium", "Collaborative/Interactive Leadership", "Service Minded Leaders", and "Leading to Organizational Success".

HUT TRIP PRESENTATION

Four of our ASTRA members attened a hut trip last summer. Rotary was a big part in making the trip happen. We went and presented the trip to Rotary. We explained the trip and let the Rotary members ask us questions.
