In December ASTRA got together and made Christmas wreaths! This was a great opportunity for us to bond as a group. We then sold the wreaths around our community to help fund our Adopt a Family for Christmas Service Project.
In December, ASTRA helped our local Montrose Altrusa organization collect books for their children's book drive. Books were wrapped by Altrusa members and then given to children within the Montrose Health and Human Services network.
In January ASTRA again showed their love for the youth in our community by making blankets for children who need them. As a club we want to be leaders for our community and this was a great way to showcase some of our leaders!
In December ASTRA teamed up with LULAC and attended a display of the Tortilla Flat Project. The ASTRA literacy project will be to help better this area of town in Montrose by creating and installing a little library drop at the neighborhood park. We were able to learn how much literacy can help our community!
In November many ASTRA members volunteered at the local Pioneer Club Annual Dinner. They helped set up and serve. As a community service organization we all love to help in any way we can! The Pioneer Club then donated $500 to ASTRA which the club utilized for more community service projects.
In November ASTRA attended the Altrusa luncheon to socialize with members. There we were able to learn a little bit more about Altrusa and our officers presented some of the leadership qualities they learned about at their conference. This was a great way for us to continue to build relationships with the Montrose Altrusa Organization!
Every Month members of ASTRA recognize some of the outstanding students at MHS they see doing something kind. These students receive kindness bags that ASTRA puts together funded by Align with Kind. We want to recognize students who go out of their way to be kind to others.
In October, ASTRA members built a scarecrow for the Scarecrow Festival. The Scarecrows were on display at the Montrose Botanic Gardens through October 20th and then auctioned off to benefit the Montrose Botanical Society. The theme of the ASTRA scarecrow was MHS Indian Sports Fan.
In October ASTRA sent 5 officers to a leadership conference in Manitou Springs. This was a two day event in which our officers learned the best leadership skills and how to effectively run our club! This conference was a great way to get ASTRA started back up at MHS.
In December ASTRA teamed up with STUCO and Partners to sponsor a youth for Christmas. ASTRA members brought items to donate for a child they chose. Members also went shopping together with proceeds raised earlier and bought gift cards.
In October, for a monthly ASTRA meeting, we held a Halloween party for group bonding. We had great food and games and some of our officers led a leadership activity and presented what it means to be an ASTRA member!
