CYSTIC FIBROSIS AWARENESS WALK

ASTRA members got together and supported people in the community with Cystic Fibrosis and family and friends with Cystic Fibrosis. Our members joined the walked in Cerise Park to support the awareness.

HIGHWAY CLEAN UP WITH ALTRUSA

ASTRA partnered with Altrusa to clean up a section of the highway. They were able to pick up a bunch of trash making the sides of the highway look a lot better. Along with the students getting community service hours, they also get to know they are helping making a difference.

READING BOOKS TO KIDS ON DR. LITERACY DAY

ASTRA partnered with ALTRUSA to read Dr. Seuss books to community kids at Buckley Park where one of the MHS Little Libraries is located. In honor of Read Across America, Altrusa donated 60 Dr. Seuss books which ASTRA read to the kids and then donated the books to the little libraries.

MAKING BOOK MARKS FOR THE LITTLE LIBRARIES

TALES FOR TAILS ANIMAL TREATS

ASTRA made bags with all the supplies for families to make dog treats at home. As well as activities like templates for drawing was included in the bags. We brought the bags to the Library for their Tales for Tails event.

MAKING HOMELESS PERSONAL BAGS

ASTRA members put together goodie bags including supplies like socks, hand sanitizer, wipes, snacks, water bottles, toothbrushes, toothpaste, lotion, etc. We were able to hand deliver the bags to the homeless at Shepard's Hand while we enjoyed having breakfast with them.

DELIVERING BLANKETS TO DOLPHIN HOUSE

ASTRA sewed blankets a couple of months ago, and recently donated them to the Dolphin House. We were able to see how these blankets will benefit people in need of them. The Dolphin house was very grateful for our donations. Other blankets were delivered to Haven House. These blankets give kids who are homeless a personal comfort.

OFFICER INDUCTION WITH ALTRUSA MEMBERS

ASTRA joined Altrusa for their monthly meeting to induct us into their program. All the officers had a candle and placed it in a holder agreeing to take responsibility for our head positions on ASTRA. We also were able to sit in on their meeting.

ADOPTING A PET & ANIMAL ACTIVITIES

ASTRA dedicated a month to helping out animals. We promoted pet adoption by hanging up flyers around the school saying where you can adopt dogs. We also made dog treats for the Second Chance dog shelter.

COOKIE DECORATING FOR TEACHERS

ASTRA members got together to decorate cookies made by some members. We bagged the cookies with notes thanking the teachers for working during this time and gave them to teachers who wanted them. Teachers were very thankful and appreciative of what we are doing to recognize their efforts.

DONATING BLANKETS & STUFFED ANIMALS

BOOK DRIVE TO DONATE BOOKS TO LITTLE KIDS

ASTRA does a Book Drive with donations of gently used children's books to promote literacy for kids who do not have many books in their homes. Books are wrapped and given to kids in the community and put in the Little Libraries that are set up around town.

DECORATING WREATHS FOR OUR COMMUNTY

ASTRA members and affiliated Altrusa members came together and made wreaths from real tree branches and decorated them with ribbon, bows, bells and pine cones. They sold the wreaths for $25 and the $400 proceeds helped support families in need for the holidays.

SETTING UP LITTLE MHS LOCAL LIBRARIES

FLOCKING COMMUNITY WITH FLAMINGOS

ASTRA flocked nursing homes in our community. Anyone can call and ask to have someone's house or facility flocked with flamingos for a dollar per flamingo. It's a fun activity to do and all proceeds go to fund other volunteer events the club does throughout the year.
