Welcome to Algebra 2. In the first quarter we will be extending your understanding of functions and solving equations that you learned in Algebra 1. We will also add a thing called complex numbers which aren't much use in life unless you are a physicist or an electrical engineer. But there will probably be on question in the SAT test. If you have not seen complex numbers it would be a guess, but if you have learned this course's complex number topic, it is a very easy question.
In the second quarter there will be an extension of trigonometry. Sine, cosine and tangent will be used with circles instead of right triangles. There will also be logarithms, which have been in high level math for hundreds of years. It was needed to do some calculations that were really difficult. Now we have calculators, so logarithms aren't as important, but there are some engineering and physics topics where it is necessary. The last topic will be some statistics that will help you prepare for the high school statistics class.
