Requirements & Expectations
Requirements
A completed application and resume must be on file with Mr. Helberg.
Students are encouraged to work with Mr. Helberg to secure a placement, before September 18, 2024 Internships can be paid or unpaid and they should align with the student’s future career interests.
Students must provide their own transportation.
Students must complete weekly logs in X2Vol and assignments that are distributed via Canvas.
Students will turn in a weekly log, electronically validated by a supervisor, with the hours they worked that week.
Students must work a minimum of 12-15 hours per week for a triple period internship, 8-10 hours per week for a double period and five hours per week for a single period. Students will receive ½ credit for each release period each semester. Students do not receive academic credit for travel periods.
Before students separate from an internship site, it MUST be discussed with Mr. Helberg before notifying the employer or host site. The expectation is that you will maintain an internship the entire time you are enrolled in the program. Leaving an internship site early (or securing one too late) will adversely affect your grade.
Because I don’t see you daily in a classroom, you will be expected to communicate with me if issues arise. We will be using Canvas and it will be a primary form of communication between us. You are responsible for checking your MCPS Gmail and Canvas accounts.
Participation in extracurricular activities is difficult to do while participating in Internship. It takes a highly motivated student. Please make sure you will have the time to devote the minimum hourly requirement each week to your internship site in addition to other activities or obligations you may have.
You are expected to leave the building after your last class.
