ST. MARY'S CITY

A VIRTUAL MUSEUM by MRS. FITCH'S 4th GRADE

Take A Trip With Us To Historic St. Mary's City!

What's so special about St. Mary's City?

St. Mary's City is a very important part of Maryland's history! In November 1633, 140 English colonists sailed on the Ark and the Dove headed for Maryland. Once the ships arrived in the New World, they established St. Mary's City in 1634! It was the first capital city of our state, before Annapolis was declared our capital city in 1694. St. Mary's City is located in southern Maryland.

What's this website all about?

While learning about the immigration, settlement patterns, and economic development in colonial Maryland, our class wondered what it might have been like to actually LIVE during the 17th century? We wondered about the experiences of the colonists who came here, because let's face it, without their journey in 1634, Maryland might be a totally different place than it is today! Our class created this virtual museum to share what we learned with other students. So, take a trip with us to the 17th century and learn what Maryland's first capital was all about!
