The mission of the Rock Creek Forest Counseling Department is to provide a comprehensive, developmental counseling program that supports the academic, social, and emotional growth of all students. Through a safe and inclusive environment, we aim to empower students with the skills to achieve academic success, develop healthy relationships, and build resilience in facing life's challenges. We collaborate with teachers, parents, and community resources to ensure every child’s well-being, fostering a positive, respectful, and equitable learning environment for all.
What do school counselors do?
Classroom lessons: Socio-emotional lessons based on the class/grade/school need (monthly)
Small group counseling: students are invited to participate in small group sessions to focus one topic/area. Students that are invited will need parent permission before sessions begin.
Academic Support Team: work with the school team/family to identify academic support needs and possibly develop appropriate interventions
Behavioral Support: work with school team/family to identify concerning behaviors and alternative/replacement behaviors
Community Resources/Outreach: make connections between families and community agencies for families facing challenges
Food instability, housing/rental assistance, clothing, childcare
Thrive Behavioral Health referrals, weekly psychotherapy for students
Emotional well-being: help students identify and process emotions in a positive manner
Social development: help students develop positive relationships with peers and staff, positive sense of self
