NJROTC (Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps) is a high school program that teaches leadership, citizenship, responsibility, and life skills, emphasizing naval heritage and national security without requiring military service…
Key Aspects of NJROTC:
Mission: To instill values of citizenship, personal responsibility, and accomplishment, fostering self-discipline, self-confidence, and leadership potential.
Curriculum: Includes classroom instruction on leadership, maritime history, naval operations, navigation, and meteorology, supplemented by practical activities.
Activities: Students participate in drill teams, color guards, marksmanship, community service, physical fitness challenges, and LOTS of field trips.
Instructors: Retired Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard officers and enlisted personnel teach the program.
No Military Obligation: It's a leadership and citizenship program, not a recruitment tool for the military, though it can provide information for those considering military careers.
Development: Develops strong character, provides a positive alternative to negative influences, promotes high school completion, and can offer advantages like advanced placement in the military or scholarships if students choose to join later.
