To join NJROTC, you need to contact your school's guidance counselor or the JROTC program instructor to inquire about the program. Like any other of your classes, using one class period out of your day.
Paint Branch NJROTC is available for 8th to 12th grade students, and depending on the area we accept students from other schools in a dual enrollment program. If you are another school from Paint Branch High or an 8th grader, Contact your counselor to see if it's available to dual enroll into our program.
No, you are not required to join the military. JROTC is a citizenship and leadership program, not a recruitment program.
With that being said, If you do plan to join the military, this program helps you get familiar with the military environment and get a “crawling start” with your military career, even providing you Advanced Rank if you decide to enlist and go to boot camp, or making your application more appealing if you're going for the NROTC Scholarship.

No, normally cadets are required to wear the uniform only one day a week on the designated "uniform day" (Typically Thursday). But Cadets may wear the uniform for other special events, but those cases are few a far between.
No, the rifles used in JROTC are not real firearms, they are drill rifles which are used for classroom instruction and the drill team, these rifles are not cable of shooting.
Although we do have Air Rifles (Non-lethal) that the air team uses for their practices and competitions.
What do you do in NJROTC?
The typical day to day classroom experience may consist of classroom lectures, drill practice, uniform inspections, or fun PT days. Overall, it's a really chill and easy class as long as you show up and try. Captain and chief even like handing out snacks every once in a while.
But the program is so much more than that!!!, NJROTC is one of the most active programs within the school, We do the most amount of field trips per year, we have a wide range of teams that regularly have practices and competitions in many different fields, and we are a big supporter of the community, regularly doing community service events such as Park cleanups or supporting our schools sports teams by doing presenting colors at games.
The real fun of this program comes out when you participate and join us in our activities.
