On Feb. 12, the sequel to the Netflix original movie “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before,” “To All the Boys I’ve Loved: P.S. I Still Love You,” was released. The movie series is based on author Jenny Han’s trilogy of the same name. Now, the first two books have been adapted into Netflix original movies. The first movie concluded with the blossoming relationship of Peter (Noah Centineo) and Lara Jean (Lana Condor), leaving fans with the idea that they had reached a final resolution. Yet the trailers for the second movie said otherwise, with the introduction of John Ambrose McClaren (Jordan Fisher) who was another boy Lara Jean had written a love letter to.

The first movie played out as Lara Jean's love letters to the boys she’s loved had gotten out and sent to the boys by her little sister Kitty. This then started a series of events, like fake-dating Peter to make his ex-girlfriend jealous, the revelation of the crush Lara Jean had on her sister Margo’s ex-boyfriend, Josh. Eventually, this all led up to the reunion of Peter and Lara Jean as a real couple. The first movie ended on a good note, which left the audience wondering what could possibly unfold in the sequel..

The sequel’s focal point is the love triangle between John Ambrose, Peter, and Lara Jean. This conflict paired with Lara Jean’s insecurity regarding Peter’s ex-girlfriend Gen keeps the movie interesting. The conflicts and situations play out in a quirky way just like the first movie. The audience gets a first-hand look at the actualization of Peter and Lara Jean’s relationship and how the reintroduction of John Ambrose jeopardizes that. There are some plot twists that the audience would not have expected from a seemingly light-hearted movie.

With all romantic teen comedies, there is bound to be a cringe factor. Despite the obviously cringe-worthy dialogue and interactions, the movie still pulls the audience’s heart strings and once again makes it hard to not love the adorable relationship between Lara Jean and Peter. Some may argue that the first movie is better, but the sequel still gives the rom-com fix we all need.
