June 16, 2021The Covid-19 pandemic has affected every aspect of our lives, including our ability to witness our favorite musicians live. In 2020, artists slowly began to reschedule their shows, only to end up cancelling them completely. Fans were refunding their tickets in disappointment, waiting for the day when they could finally see their favorite performances in-person again. Though it seemed like we may never get there, concerts are slowly starting to return after 13 months away.
Southern states like Texas and Mississippi were very quick in returning to in person concerts without any mandates due to infection rates dropping this year, whereas California is opening up at limited capacity and you will have to wear a mask inside. In terms of rules and regulations regarding Covid-19, you will have to do research as to the venue you are attending and what they require. Vaccinations are not required in most states and there is no way to 100% determine who has or has not been vaccinated, given that anybody could give an untruthful answer or piece of proof. However, New York does require evidence of vaccination or a negative Covid-19 test before entering any events.
In the D.C, Maryland, Virginia area, also known as the DMV, many artists are returning to perform in-person. The Weeknd is scheduled to play Capital One Arena in Washington D.C on Wednesday, July 7. Guns N’ Roses is playing at Nationals Park on Tuesday, July 13, and John Legend will be playing the Filene Center in Vienna, Virginia on Friday August 20.
Although the return to concerts is very exciting and a big step in our recovery from Covid-19, some people are still hesitant to be in a public area with large crowds. It is important that each individual person makes the best decision for themselves and do whatever feels right for them.
