January 16, 2026The starvation in Gaza, commonly referred to as the Gaza Famine, has already killed almost 400 people, including 140 children, as of Sept. 9, 2025.
Palestinians are deliberately being starved, and according to How to stop Israel from starving Gaza, “more than half a million Palestinians face catastrophic hunger, and at least 132,000 children aged below five years are at risk of death from acute malnutrition.”
Eyad Amawi says, “...the Israeli occupation gave the permission just for 15 [trucks] from our needs, 15 percentage of our needs.” Even with the limited resources the citizens have, those who can access those food distribution sites get fired upon by the Israeli army.
According to an Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report, half a million people in Gaza, equivalent to a quarter of its population, face a high risk of dying from malnutrition-related causes.
“There is no nation that feeds its enemies,” Israeli ministers have declared, “Whoever doesn’t evacuate, don’t let them. No water, no electricity; they can die of hunger or surrender. This is what we want.” Yet, Benjamin Netanyahu denies the reports of starvation, accusing Hamas of promoting “lies.” On X, his office posted, “The IPC report is an outright lie. Israel does not have a policy of starvation.” Israel also announced it would put more humanitarian aid in after images of underfed children and reports of famine were published.
Despite these declarations of starvation, ”The administration of President Donald Trump continues to provide vital military aid and diplomatic cover [for Israel],” according to the BBC. The U.S. State Department called the situation in Gaza a “serious concern,” but says Hamas is the one responsible for the difficulties delivering aid.
Other countries in the United Nations (UN) such as the United Kingdom have stated they will recognize Palestine as its own state unless Israel actually follows through and improves the situation in Gaza. On the other hand, Japan will not recognize Palestine as its own state for now.
The UN says what is actually entering Gaza is far less than what Israel says there is. Israel’s Foreign Ministry claims more than 100,000 trucks of aid entered Gaza, while experts say Gaza has been blockaded from the import of all food, medicine, and other goods.
To halt this starvation of Palestinians, UN Secretary-General António Guterres has called this event a “human-made disaster, a moral indictment, and a failure of humanity itself,” and urged the international community to act and act fast by declaring a ceasefire before it causes more catastrophe.
