January 20, 2026The senior parking lot has raised many issues among students when they leave for the day. During the fall season, it wasn’t as big a problem because a large number of students weren’t leaving at the time of dismissal due to fall sports practices. However, now that the season has ended and the winter sports season begins, the parking lot is full and busy every day.
The main problem is getting out because if you aren’t in your car before 2:35, you most likely will not be leaving the parking lot until 2:45-2:50. The reason for this is that once the first bus is sent out, they all follow, which last an incredibly long time, and no bus or car will let a student car in the lane to leave. I have witnessed multiple people exit the wrong way in the one-way on the other side just to avoid the wait.
Senior Jocelyn Kay said, “Maybe they should eliminate the parallel parking along that road so that the right lane starts at the carpool lines and traffic can move much faster for the buses”.
There is usually a security guard stationed at the parking lot exit, and sometimes, if there is an opening, they will stop the pedestrian traffic on the small crosswalk to allow cars to exit, but most of the time, there is nothing they can do about it since the buses have priority.
Senior Faith Duhig said, “I think they need a new system because the wait time is getting ridiculous. The security guard could try to control this traffic and have people take turns so that the cars aren’t being held in the parking lot forever.”
This issue has become more and more prominent among students as they are scared to be late to any after-school activities or appointments. Many senior students have been sprinting from their last class to get into their cars and race out of the lot as fast as they can. This problem is getting very out of hand and needs to be remedied in some way.
