“Moana 2” was released Nov. 27, 2024, and since then has garnered much attention for its catchy songs and entertaining storyline. “Moana 2” is a family friendly musical about a teenage girl ,Moana, journing through the sea, attempting to reunite all the neighboring islands. During her journey she has to cope with leaving her little sister behind, unsure if she would return.

Moana 2 has received a variety of reviews ranging from “Horrible!” to “Amazing” and has a 62% on rotten tomatoes.There is such a wide range of reviews for moana 2 because it is a good movie, unless you have seen Moana 1. Without watching Moana 1, Moana 2 is a sweet movie with a couple catchy songs. Once you see Moana 1, Moana 2 feels much sloppier and the music sounds very boring and repetitive.  

 “Moana 2” has multiple catchy songs on its soundtrack, and is a fun movie to watch. It definitely is not as good as its prequel, “Moana” as the songs feel a little lazier and the production just does not compare. Lin Manual Miranda, a screen-play writer, most famously known for writing and starring in “Hamilton,” was the songwriter for “Moana”, but not “Moana 2”. That is clearly seen through some of the lyrics and songs.

“Moana 2’s” animation style is very similar to that of “Moana”. It is very realistically animated and beautifully well done. The animation style goes perfectly with the tropical scenery and the water. 

Overall “Moana 2” was not worth the watch. It felt almost exactly the same as Moana 1, except with less catchy music. Save your money and watch Moana 1.
