January 16, 2026Einstein Girls Cross Country claimed their first-ever division title after a narrow win against Rockville, 27-30.
During their undefeated season, the Titans bested the likes of Blake, Northwood, and Magruder. This win makes them the only undefeated girls team in the division, with a record of 4-0. This historic victory is the first division championship in Einstein Girls Cross Country history.
While facing some of the best runners in the state, the Titans remained calm, relying on their extremely deep middle pack to pull them through to victory. They consistently managed to race intelligently, commonly falling to the back at the beginning of races, and working their way up throughout. This mixture was ultimately the key to their success.
“It's a really cool accomplishment, something that's never been done before in the history of the program," said head coach Eric Da Silva.
Throughout the team's history, they have won two regional championships, once in 1980 and most recently in 2014, where the team placed second in the state.
This year's varsity seven is led by Leela Joshi and Sophie Favreau, two standout junior talents. Joshi boasts an impressive time of 20:06 over 5,000 meters, ranking her fifth on the all-time school standings, while Favreau ran an impressive 22:20, placing her 25th on the list.
“We have a bright future ahead of us and we’re gonna keep on improving together as a team,” said Joshi, and the numbers are starting to align.
Out of the top 10 runners, a whopping seven will be returning next year, enough for a complete varsity lineup.
“This division win is a step towards success in the future, and a sign of what's to come,” said Favreau.
The Titans then ran at the Montgomery County Championship, at Boher park where Joshi placed 17th, and as a team, the Titans placed 15th.
At the regional championships, the Titans managed a second place finish, qualifying them for the state championship as a team, including five all region performances, with Joshi winning the regional title.
In an incredible performance, Joshi placed 20th at the state championship, securing all state honors, while running with a broken foot.
