January 16, 2025Multiple coaching vacancies for Einstein Athletics need to be filled. For the spring season, Einstein is looking for a coach for Junior Varsity Softball, Girls and Boys Lacrosse for both JV and Varsity. Einstein is also looking for a new football coach for the next fall season.
“The process is that once a coach is not returning for whatever reason, I create a post on MCPS careers that the job is open. Typically, I will also send an email to staff members and ask around to see if any staff members are interested”, said athletic director Christina Fitzpatrick. If the staff member is not qualified, they will make a post on social media in an attempt to gain more interest from outside applicants. Once the post has been up for a few weeks and people are applying, interviews will begin, and the coaching vacancy will be filled.
Certain sports are more difficult to find candidates who are qualified for the role. “In general, Einstein and MCPS teachers are usually good candidates because their schedules are more conducive to after-school practices and they have more experience working with students than outside applicants”, said Fitzpatrick.
Typically, candidates who have no previous experience playing or coaching experience in the sport will not be a candidate to get the job.
There are no specific qualifications a candidate needs to qualify for a coaching position at Einstein. The things the candidate must know how to do are cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification, coach compliance, and a background check.
Other qualifications that could make a candidate more desirable and better than another person applying for the same role are prior coaching experience, a flexible schedule, and prior experience playing the sport. This all mainly varies by sport and the position the person is trying to obtain.
