May 11 2026On Tuesday, April 14, Einstein hosted the Montgomery County Regional SGA (MCR) general assembly, where students from MCPS high schools voted on new leadership for the next school year.
Made up of students from all 25 MCPS high schools, MCR aims to represent students in key decisions across the county. “Everyone who’s in MCR comes from different places, but they all have the same intention of fighting for everyone in this county’s rights, and that includes lobbying the board, sending messages to the board, and attending state-level conferences, all for the better good of Montgomery County,” said senior and MCR deputy Roro Ogalesco.
Although most general assemblies have discussions on issues that are important to students, this general assembly was special because members voted on new MCR officers for the 2026-2027 school year, making it even more significant that Einstein hosted. “We were able to host an event that would literally become the future for MCR,” Ogalesco said.
Senior, MCR Treasurer, and Einstein SGA President Zain Qureshi started planning the event in early March. He worked with other MCR officers to plan the event and coordinated the school’s role in hosting by making sure Einstein SGA members knew how to sign people in and keep everything on track.
The general assembly was a complete success. “The voting went really smoothly, and everything fell together on time,” Qureshi said. “Our SGA helpers and our leadership [class]... were really useful in making sure everything went along smoothly.”
Hosting the MCR General Assembly also helped show Einstein’s strength in student government. “I think the fact that Einstein is a DCC school and because we’re so tiny but mighty, there is a lot of significance in the fact that we were able to host such an important event,” Ogalesco said.
Qureshi urges anyone interested to apply for MCR next year and have a role in making MCPS a better place. “I really hope that any other underclassmen that want to be involved in leadership and making a change in our county take the chance to apply for MCR applications, open this May,” he said. No current Einstein members are coming back next year, so “[new Einstein applicants] are pretty much guaranteed a spot.”
