January 16, 2026With summer break officially closing its doors on Aug. 25, Albert Einstein High School opened its doors for the first-ever “Student Transition Day.”
The Montgomery County Board of Education approved the new day for the 2025-2026 school year on Dec. 5, 2024. MCPS’ goal for the student transition day was to help students adapt to their new schools, allowing students to ease their anxieties before the first day of school. It was primarily set for students entering kindergarten, third, sixth, and ninth grade. It was listed as a “non-instructional day” for teachers and students.
MCPS controlled the basics of how students would go throughout the day. Einstein was among the schools that prepared a simple but energetic schedule.
New Titans entered the building, greeted by a clapout from the Titans Poms and Cheer teams’ colorful pom-poms. The Titan marching band also made a loud appearance, playing Titan Glory, amongst other tunes.
All the students gathered in the gymnasium to watch multiple performances from the Titan Marching Band, Poms, Titanes Salseros, and the cheer squad, introducing them to the strong school spirit of Einstein.
After the performances, new students broke into groups and received guided tours from many Einstein Student Ambassadors, making sure everyone understood where specific classes and rooms were located.
When the bells rang, every student would simulate transitions for periods one through seven, allowing everyone to know their classes, routes, and teachers. Once the lunch bell rang, students were allowed to eat in the cafeteria or check out the Einstein activity fair on Main Street. Multiple Einstein clubs and sports were in attendance at the fair to help bring students into fun extracurricular activities that might interest them.
Many new students of all grades stated that student transition day helped calm their anxieties and feel positive going into Einstein.
“So far, I’ve met nice teachers and have made new friends already,” said a junior transfer student. “All the teachers I met calmed down my nerves, and I’m very excited for the new school year.”
“For me, I’m a lot more confident since I'm coming from a private school,” said a freshman. The first Student Transition Day gave positive results, with Einstein laying its foundation for new students and living up to the motto, “The Place to Be.”
