January 16,2026Sounds of the marching band playing their outgoing music, the lively student section, and sensational performances carried out by cheer and Poms filled the air as the Einstein Titans’ football season started. Friday night lights ran back onto the scene for Einstein football with the Titans holding a struggling 2-9 record.
Last year, the Titans finished the 2024 season with a 3-7 losing record. Multiple seniors departed from the team after graduating, some notable names being Carleton commit Luc Frechette and former defensive lineman Richard “Jah” Denny. A winning record is Einstein’s full focus this year, hoping to improve last year’s record.
This year would be the second season under coach Tracy Martin, a former coach for the Paint Branch Wildcats.
Einstein opened their first game of the season with an on-the-road victory over the Springbrook Blue Devils, 28-16. The Einstein offense looked in form, with strong chemistry between senior quarterback Micheal Lainez and junior wide receiver Alonzo Reader.
Reader recorded two reception touchdowns in their big win against Springbrook. The defense also held its strengths, maintaining Springbrook's points at 16 and pressuring all game. This was Einstein's first home opening win since 2019.
The next two matches weren’t as victorious for the Titans, as they suffered two critical defeats from Paintbranch 55-0 and, most notably, Northwood 42-28. The Titans understood the different levels of athleticism coming from the Paint Branch Panthers, being ranked second in the county. On the other hand, the defeat against Northwood stung the most for the Titans.
Both teams were leveled at 28-28 with time remaining in the fourth quarter. Einstein remained at Northwood’s 40-yard line. Einstein handed the ball off to junior running back Jowell Martinez. Martinez seemingly went down, but the ball was punched out from the carry and recovered by Northwood. Northwood took the fumble recovery to the house in a controversial play, leaving fans wondering whether Martinez had already touched the ground.
Einstein would have one more attempt in trying to tie the game, but Northwood threw the dagger with a pick-6 touchdown from a bobbled reception caused by junior wide receiver Chuibuike Azuibuike, who scored the opening kick return touchdown.
Struggles continued as the Titans lost on the road against Blair, going scoreless in a 42-0 defeat against DCC rivals. Despite gathering their first win in 3 weeks in a 44-38 comeback win against Watkins Mill, Einstein entered back into the losing column with a 56-8 homecoming disaster versus Kennedy, 72-6 senior night farewell against Damascus, and a 44-38 short defeat at Poolesville.
It’s a regular season to forget for the Titans, closing their regular season and short playoff run with defeats against Wheaton 40-6, and Oxon Hill 6-72.
