MSFAA: Maryland State Financial Aid Application: Resources for DACA Recipients/Undocumented Students
Students who are DACA Recipients or Undocumented still have the option to apply for Maryland State Aid. To do this, students will need to create an MD CAPS account through the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) website. After creating an account, students will be able to access the Maryland State Financial Application (MSFAA) application.
Requirements:
Just like the FAFSA, the MSFAA does seek information regarding parents/guardians' tax information. Parents/Guardians will have needed to file taxes for the last 3 years. For the 2023-2024 application window, parents/guardians' 2021 tax information will be requested. The application is usually due around March 1st of every year.
Have graduated or will graduate from a Maryland High School
Attending a Maryland College/University
Males only: must apply for Selective Services
Once the application has been submitted, students must continue to check their MD CAPS accounts for updates. Additionally, emails are sent to students to inform them if they qualify for grants, scholarships, etc. Student may be asked to turn in specific documents by a specific deadline.
Through submitting the MSFAA, students can qualify for the Guaranteed Access Grant, the Maryland Community College Promise Scholarship, and Senatorial or Delegate scholarships.
For more information on the MSFAA, students and families can go to the MHEC website here: https://mhec.state.md.us/Pages/MSFAA-FAQS.aspx
