Black-Eyed Susan Award Nominees
Every year, students across Maryland choose their favorite books from a list of nominees.
The books nominated for the 2023-2024 school year can be found below.
When you read 3 books in a category, you will be eligible to vote for which book you think should win the award.
Black-Eyed Susan Reading Challenge
How does it work?
Read one BES Nominated book at a time. You can read the book from our library, listen to an audiobook on Sora, read an ebook on Sora, read your own copy of the book, or read the book from the public library.
Pick up a BES Reading Challenge paper from the media center that matches the category you are reading in.
Once you have read the book, you will log your reading on the BES Challenge Paper and answer a trivia question about the book.
Read 3 or more books in any category, answer the trivia question for each, show Ms. Greco your challenge paper with your answers and choose a prize.
Want to read 3 books in more than one category? You receive a prize for every category you read at least 3 books in(4-6 novels, 4-6 graphic novels, 6-9 novels, 6-9 graphic novels, and high school). Want to read more than 3 books in the same category? Earn prizes for every 3 books you complete.
Every student who reads at least 3 books in one category will be invited to a "voting" doughnut party in April to select their favorite book.
