Start a Club
So, you want to start a club...?
DEVELOP YOUR IDEA
How do you envision your club? If you need some help, think about whether you can check off each of the following statements:
My club idea is unique.
There is at least one other person who can help me run my club, and I have a good idea of what the leadership team will look like.
I know of 2+ platforms that I will use to consistently communicate with club members.
I know roughly how big I want the club to be.
I've thought about whether my club will require tryouts or any specific procedures for membership.
I've decided on when and how often I would like the club to meet.
FIND A TEACHER SPONSOR
Your teacher sponsor will create the Zoom rooms for your meetings, communicate with administration, and help manage club finances should they become applicable. They're really important! For guidance on finding the right sponsor for your club, see if you can check off each of the following statements:
I know my sponsor relatively well.
I can reliably and regularly communicate with my sponsor
My sponsor and i have decided on a meeting time for my club.
My sponsor and I have discussed some ideas for club activities.
GET YOUR CLUB APPROVED
Ask your teacher sponsor to fill out THIS GOOGLE FORM and wait for an email of approval. If there are problems, email Dr. Bradley, Assistant Principal, at Vaughn_M_Bradley@mcpsmd.org, and the ECA Activities Director, Chief Rogers, at Sharon_D_Rogers@mcpsmd.org.
And that's it! CONGRATULATIONS!
If your club promotes advocacy, leadership, or community involvement, be on the lookout for the Montgomery County Regional SGA grant application in the current school year! Or, if you'd like some SSL hours, participate in the MCPS Student-to-Student Extracurricular Video Series.
