Counselors & Students
School Counselors' primary obligations are to the students, who are to be treated with dignity and respect
School Counselors are concerned with students' academic, social/emotional and career needs, and encourage each student to perform to their highest potential
School Counselors provide effective and responsive interventions in accordance to MCPS/MSDE Policies and Maryland State Laws
School Counselors are not able to diagnose but are aware of the impacts Mental Health can have on students' academic success, and can refer students/families to the appropriate services within the community
Counselors & Teachers/Administrations
School Counselors work to develop/maintain positive and professional relationships with faculty, staff and administration in the spirit of supporting all students
School Counselors will collaborate, consult, mentor and support other professionals in need of assistance as it relates to the role of a School Counselor
School Counselors will work with all school staff to promote equity in competencies/domains such as Race, Gender, Ethnicity, Culture, etc in order to provide a welcoming environment for all students while on campus
Counselors & Parents/Guardians/Families
School Counselors work to establish a collaborative relationship with all parents/guardians/families while respecting their rights and responsibilities
School Counselors strive to inform parents/guardians/families of the nature and level of confidentiality that must be used when working with students
School Counselors ensure that parents/guardians/families receive information relevant to their student, and is both accurate and comprehensive in regards to the purpose of the meeting
Counselors & The Educational Process
School Counselors will work with data gathered from within our School Counseling Program in order to help close the gaps in the areas of achievement and opportunity, and provide interventions where needed
School Counselors work on committees in order to best determine where they can assist the School Improvement Plan
School Counselors share data with all stakeholders in order to build a stronger community to best support all Blake students
