NRCC offers several Nursing Program options for high school graduates:  

  • Associate Degree Nursing (ADN)

  • Practical Nursing Certificate (PN)

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Students interested in NRCC's ADN Nursing Program (Associate Degree in Nursing /RN) or the Practical Nursing Certificate/LPN  must successfully complete prerequisite courses prior to admission, many of which can be fulfilled through high school dual enrollment courses.   In addition to taking the required prerequisite courses, students must apply and complete all additional items on corresponding checklists prior to the Feb. 15 deadline.  

Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) - DE at BHS Prerequisite Courses:

  • One unit of high school chemistry (CHM 5 or CHM 111 at NRCC also fulfills this requirement)

  • DE English 11 College Composition or DE English 12 College Composition (both courses include ENG 111 & SDV 100 - required for nursing admission)

  • DE Anatomy & Physiology - (includes BIO 141 - required for nursing admission)

    • Please note:  DE Anatomy & Physiology has a prerequisite of BIO 101 - this requirement can also be met through a score of 3 or higher on the AP Bio exam OR a passing score on the NAS 2 Challenge Exam

  • PSY 230 (Developmental Psychology):  class taken at NRCC - MCPS does not currently offer this as a dual enrollment course

  • MTH 130 (Fundamentals of Reasoning) OR  completion of the MTH 130 competency exam with a grade of 80% or higher (only available to individuals who previously completed a college math course at the MTH 154 level or higher with a grade of C or higher)

Practical Nursing Certificate (LPN) - DE at BHS Prerequisite Courses:

  • DE English 11 College Composition or DE English 12 College Composition (both courses include ENG 111 & SDV 100 - required for nursing admission)
