The Riner Christmas Day Parade was a very heartwarming event that recognized everyone who came to watch or to be in the parade. The people that participated in the parade were the Riner Fire Department, FFA, Auburn High School varsity and JV cheer team, Auburn High School corps cadets, and many other floats. There was also a float competition where people voted who had the best decorated float and the winners were the Auburn High School JV/varsity cheer team, and the trophy they won is in the front office. Even the Grinch was there happily riding on the back of a truck. Many people from Riner came out to see this Christmas parade, and even though it was small, it was still very cheerful. Everyone who came to the parade went to the fire department and inside they had hot cocoa, sweet treats, Santa Claus and even his elves. It was a very happy sight to see everyone gathering together and meeting old friends. After the past few years we all have had with Covid, it was very nice to see everyone come together.

Art is all around us, from the way the leaves lay on the ground to a masterpiece painting like the Mona Lisa. Art is a culture, and it is in everyone whether you are an artist as a career, a student artist, or not an artist at all, if you enjoy stopping to look at the sunrise or set, take a picture because what you are taking a picture of is beautiful. My name is Lauren Garnand, I am seventeen years old, and I am an amateur photographer. Mainly, I take sports and candid photos. But I am trying to explore new mediums, and today I am sharing with you a photo from earlier this year. On July 29, 2023. I was coming home from dinner when the warm, radiant light formed a perfect Autumn sunset making for a perfect picture. This picture was taken on Tyler Avenue at 8:42 pm. The photo captures different colors and textures from contrasting colors like orange, blue, white/gray, and black to contrasting textures like the rough texture of the pavement, the smooth glossy finish of the car, the fluffy clouds, and the leaves on the trees. Claytor Lake is a place we all know as the hometown summer spot. Between boating, fishing, swimming, and other water sports Claytor Lake and the state park have a rich history. Claytor Lake has it all wedding venues to photo-finish sunrise and set. This photo was taken July 22, 2023. It is taken from the deck of Claytor Lake water sports after a torrential down poor. After raining for 45 mins the sky's started to clear and the outcomes rainbow. Always reminding us that there is easy and beautiful passed the hard and unpleasant.

Here at Auburn High school we had 2 weeks full of Christmas dress ups. On December (Dec) 4th we had Candy Cane Lane (Red and white) where you dress up in red in white. Everyone wears their favorite red Christmas shirt. (Dec) 5th was Santa's hat where everyone wears a Santa hat. I couldn’t tell you how many hats I saw in the school. (Dec) 6th was Fa la la Flannel & Boot Scoot into the holiday (Boots and Flannels). Everyone wears their favorite boots and flannels to school. (Dec) 7th Tacky Christmas Sweater. There were some pretty crazy Christmas sweaters that everyone wore. On (Dec) 11th Grinchmas (Wear green) Everyone wears green that remembers that you were supposed to wear green. No one dressed up as a grinch though which was sad. (Dec) 12th Ghost of Holiday Past (Decades day) everyone wears. Everyone dressed in their 80’s christmas clothes. (Dec) 13th Jingle Bell Rock (Rock and Roll) everyone dressed in their rock and roll outfits. (Dec) 14th Character day (Dress as your fav christmas character). There were reindeers everywhere when someone came up with an idea to wear red like the reindeer got hit by a car. Recently, all the students have had to meet with Mr.Hurd and Miss Roark and had the rules re-instated. We can no longer have our phones out during class time, even if it was okay with a teacher before. Now, either Hurd or Roark patrol the classrooms and make sure no one is on their phones. Those who have their phones out and are caught, are now given larger consequences like lunch detention.
Many students are outraged, feeling like they’re being treated unfairly. A lot of students were angry, thinking that a rumor of our phones being taken away at lunch could be true. These rumors went around the school, many students complained and bickered over what they would do in the situation or how they would react. Some were more angry than others.

School is a controversial subject in general in the world itself. Homework however is one of the biggest controversial topics of all times. Homework became a thing in 1905. Schools have changed a lot since that time but homework has stuck around. The big mystery is why has homework stuck around? Is homework really effective? One thing I have noticed is that as the grades in school get higher, the more homework we have but less people actually do the homework. For example in younger grades pretty much all of them do their homework, not only because their parents have to help them but it is seen as a daily task since they are so young. In middle school it's a hit and miss. Parents start giving a little bit more freedom and then some kids actually take the incentive and do their homework and others just simply don't do it. High school is the biggest example.
Hardly anyone does their homework in my school experience. Therefore I don't believe homework is necessary. It's a different story if the teachers assign work in class with plenty of time to do it, and a student doesn't get it done then it is their respolity to complete it out of school time. I don't however see the point in teachers giving work to do in class and then a separate assignment for homework. I believe this way because if they want students to do work in their class, I believe it should be done in their class and students should be given plenty of time to complete their assignments during class time. The last thing students want to do after a long day of school is more work, they want to go home and relax, or some of them have to go home and go to other activities. Since many students don't do their homework I don't believe homework is effective and I don't think there is any point in giving out homework. Homework for younger grades I understand, but in highschool I don't believe there should be homework.

Recently, there has been a lot of controversy around Starbucks, one of the most popular coffee chains around the world. The resounding loss of support for Starbucks recently has resulted in a huge boycott, causing the company to lose 10% of their stock (around $11 billion market value). This happened for a multitude of reasons, the most important one being Starbucks’ public lack of support for Palestine during the ongoing war between them and Israel, found in the company's controversial response to a pro- Palestinian post on social media. Another huge reason so many people are boycotting the company is a call for better, more fair labor conditions for their workers. Starbucks workers worldwide have been bringing up the issues that the Starbucks company has with staffing, scheduling, and overworking their employees. The company has been under fire for partaking in “union busting” activities. Workers became especially frustrated and started to speak up about the issues of working for Starbucks after “Red Cup Day,” where patrons can get a limited edition red cup with their already overpriced drink. The influx of people coming to get the red cup resulted in many conflicts for tired Starbucks workers. Starbucks workers and customers have been lobbying for better working conditions for a while now, but after Starbucks has been in the news recently, more and more people are actually boycotting the company.
Number one Michigan Wolverines dominated number two Washington Huskies on the ground in the first quarter and allowed itself to be contained for half the game before finishing the fourth quarter exactly as it started the game. The Wolverines piled up a history-making 303 yards rushing while obliterating the Huskies on both lines of scrimmage in a 34-13 victory to capture the 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship in Houston and bring a ring back to Ann Arbor, Michigan, for the first time since 1997.
Running back Blake Corum led the way for the maize & blue with 134 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 21 touches, but it was Donovan Edwards barely contributing all season while dealing with injuries, who broke loose for two first-quarter touchdowns and totaled 104 yards on six carries. Michigan's 303 yards rushing was not only more than Washington's total yardage in the game was 301, but it was also the most yards on the ground by a national title winner in the BCS/CFP era since 1998.
Corum and Edwards became the first teammates to each rush for 100+ yards in a national championship since Eddie Lacy and T.J. Yeldon of Alabama in the 2013 BCS Championship Game and the first duo to also rush for two touchdowns each since Mark Ingram II and Trent Richardson of Alabama in the 2010 BCS title game. Meanwhile, Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy compiled the fewest yards passing by a winning signal caller 140 yards since Greg McElroy's 58 yards for the Crimson Tide in that 2010 BCS title game.
For Wolverines coach Jim Harbaugh, hoisting the CFP trophy Monday night was a feather in the cap of the ultimate Michigan Man who carried on many tenets injected into the program by his former coach, the legendary Bo Schembechler. Harbaugh, who struggled to beat Ohio State across his first six seasons at Michigan, has now taken down his program's archrival in three straight seasons, winning as many Big Ten Championship Games and now a national title.
