The Middlesex County School Board approves the inclusion of family life education (FLE). Instruction is organized and maintained under the FLE standards of learning objectives developed by the Virginia Department of Education. The Superintendent or his/her designee approves all used instructional materials. No materials relating to FLE will be available to students through the school media centers unless the School Board has approved such materials. Portions of the FLE program that deal exclusively with human sexuality may be conducted in separate sessions for boys and girls. Parents who do not want their children to participate in all or part of the FLE program may opt-out. Parents and guardians have the right to review family life curricula used in the program. For more information, parents may contact the schools or School Board office at (804) 758-2277.
