Individual Planning

Goal: By February of 2024, the school counselor will meet with 80% of the McNeil student body to establish connection, individual needs, personal goals, and overall feelings of safety at McNeil.

Responsive Services

Goal: I will research, create, plan, and implement a school wide career day that focuses on careers for kindergarten through fifth grade students. I will incorporate diverse presenters, hands-on presentations, and student reflection activities. I will complete this by May 2024.
Highlighted Activities:

Calm Corners in every classroom
Character Strong lessons to build character traits on a daily basis
402 Small Group Sessions on friendship, emotional regulation, anxiety, following directions, and peer relationships
Create opportunities to show empathy and kindness by planning a school wide community service project

System Support

Goal: Throughout the year, the school counselor will post staff mental health strategies, encourage school climate positivity, and inspire school spirit by creating, providing, and designing school wide morale activities.

Guidance Curriculum

Goal: Throughout the first semester, students will be taught how to make friends, be a good friend, and maintain or build new friendships.
Highlighted Activities:

Using the goal for guidance curriculum that highlighted a need the students mentioned in our end of the year needs assessment. The school counselor planned specific lessons throughout the first semester to help students know how to build friendships, what it means to be a good friend, and how to maintain and build lasting friendships.
By the end of these lessons, the school counselor wanted students to have tools to use to make better connections with others and to solve conflicts within friend groups to maintain their friends. By doing a pre-assessment and a post-assessment the school counselor was able to see just how much of an impact the lessons had on the students. The counselor also used her end of the year needs assessment to see if the lessons were impactful to students.

Collaboration and Connection

Community Outreach

Community outreach is such an important part of the students and staff at McNeil. The school counselor works hand in hand with our community partners, our communities in school liaison, our PTO, and other community agencies to benefit the lives of our students.
The community outreach activities that benefited McNeil and our surrounding McKinney community in the 2023-2024 school year included: McNeil's Annual Community Service Project, Kindness Week and Giving Back to Others, Thanksgiving Baskets, Blessing Bags, Kindness Crew, staff morale boosters, student assemblies, and much more.
