A GREAT way to help your child at home is to be informed. We include a great deal of information for our families in our newsletter every week. You will find what your child is studying each week in the Weekly Overview section. This enables you to ask specific questions about your child's day in addition to "How was your day?". As parents, we know the typical answer to that question is a distracted "Fine." We also update the Fifth Grade News and the Glen Oaks News sections each week so that you can be aware of all of the great things happening here at school. Be sure to check out the How to Help at Home below for more specific help as well the Middle School information.
As busy working parents ourselves, we understand how hard it can be to juggle all of it. Here are a few easy tips that we find helpful:
Set up a daily family routine, including healthy eating and sleeping habits
Provide a place and time at home for homework
Check on assignments, homework and projects
Talk each day with your child about his/her activities
Promote literacy by reading to your child and by reading yourself
Limit and monitor TV watching, gaming, social media and computer time
Express high expectations and standards for your child’s learning
Attend parent-teacher conferences, Open House and Back-To-School events
Participate in decisions that affect your child’s education
Tap into community resources with visits to a library, museum, zoo or theater and encourage participation in after-school clubs, sports and art activities
We look forward to working with you to best support your student throughout the school year. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us anytime!!

Imagine Math is available to all students in Texas. Research has shown that students who successfully complete 30 lessons by the end of the year are more likely to pass STAAR and are better prepared for the next grade level. If your child is struggling with a particular topic, the program goes back to similar 4th grade and even 3rd grade problems to help fill in the gaps. In addition, a live tutor is available until 9:00 every night. On the flip side, if your child already gets it and is ready to move on, Imagine Math will move forward at his or her pace in order to provide a more challenging opportunity for learning.
