Counselor's Role
The role of the counselor is to meet the social, emotional and academic needs of all students. This is done by analyzing data gathered from needs assessments and identifying the specific needs of students. The counselor works closely with teachers, administration, parents and the community in order to implement an effective counseling program.
Leadership and Advocacy
Ms. Mercado is a member of the Leadership Team, PBIS Committee, and the 504 campus coordinator. She collaborates with teachers, parents and stakeholders to help implement a successful and effective comprehensive counseling program. An example of her leadership was the implementation of the school store through her collaboration with PBIS, Communities in Schools (CIS), teachers, administration and the Kiwanis Club. She presented the needs of our students to community stakeholders (Kiwanis Club) and collaborated with teachers in order to successfully implement a school store that encouraged positive behavior. The counselor taught monthly lessons, organized school-wide events, lead student council meetings, and implemented the Character Strong curriculum school-wide as part of daily morning meetings to address students social and emotional needs.
