8-May 2018 -- Just one month from departing on the Buffalo's epic misadventure to western Canada, Alaska, the Yukon, and maybe - just maybe - the Arctic Circle! Excitement is in the air as we see to our final preparations. "Author's Blog" re-starts today with frequent updates while counting down this last, crucial, pre-launch month.
22-Aug-2017 -- No more excuses -- next summer we'll try Alaska again! Lots of planning remains to be done, even though this will be a carbon copy repeat of the 2015 itinerary.
18-Apr-2016 -- The GT-750's rebuild is complete! A shakedown ride to Wisconsin is planned for this weekend, to formally end the six-month reconstruction of the 130,000 mile Suzuki, whose main crankshaft seals wore out midway into a trans-Canada tour last July.
6-Mar-2016 -- The Suzuki's rebuild is well underway and we're looking at a second try at Alaska in 2017 or sooner. Follow the Author's Blog for more up-to-date details!
9-Aug-2015 -- Tests have now revealed that failed crankshaft seals caused the drastic loss of horsepower that curtailed the Alaska tour. True to her reputation for ruggedness under duress, the Suzuki GT750 was able to return home from western Alberta (over 2,000 miles) while obtaining power from just one cylinder. Once complete repairs have been made, another Alaska attempt will be considered. More details can be seen in the "Author's Blog" page.
22-Jul-2015 -- We're off! Check out the updates on the "Author's Blog" page!
22-Jun-2015 -- A new blog has been established to chronicle the author's planned "misadventure" to the 49th state beginning exactly one month from tomorrow. Click the "Announcements" link below to follow the action as final preparations are made, and continuing with day by day accounts of life on the road.
21-Jun-2015 -- The Lemans America Quadragennial Rally, "Savanna Sojourn," was a smashing success despite uncooperative weather for the first few days, and weather threats all week long. Despite this, over forty Suzuki riders and friends cavorted around the tri-state area of Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa during the week of June 14-19, 2015, celebrating our club's fortieth anniversary. Special recognition was given to five attendees who brought road-worthy classic Suzukis to the rally - we had two GT750 "Water Buffalos," a pair of RE-5 rotaries, a Cavalcade, and even a 1972 RV-90. We also had a lot of travelers in cars, but that was a blessing considering the rain and the appeal of dry transportation. Next year we plan to rally in North Carolina.
9-April 2015 -- Reservations have been made for a solo misadventure to Alaska in summer of 2015. The ride will depart eastern Iowa on 22-July, and should reach Fairbanks, Alaska on 2-August. If successful, the 1975 Suzuki GT-750 "Water Buffalo" may be the only example of that model to have visited all 49 continental United States. Updates on the historic 40th birthday trip will be carried on this website.
27-Mar-2015 -- Dates have been set for the Lemans America “Quadragennial” National Rally - the week of June 14-20, 2015. Lemans America is the original Suzuki owners organization in the US, and was formed in 1975 to suit the friendship needs of Suzuki GT-750 "Lemans" owners. Though much smaller than years ago, the club continues to gather each year for a fun-filled rally, riding a variety of motorcycles including a small number of GT-750’s still in circulation. The rally will be centered in Savanna, and will feature excursions to the American Motorcycle Museum in nearby Anamosa, IA as well as The House on the Rock in southwestern Wisconsin, and many other nearby attractions. GT-750 and RE-5 owners are called to be the honored guests of Lemans America at this historic gathering. Contact John Bruesch through this website for more information.
