Within our MCCSC model, a student learning community joins students, educators, and business partners established by shared interests. Our SLC Teacher Team focuses their work on building a supportive and collective environment that engages every student.
Building college and career student learning communities (SLCs) to transform the traditional high school model to better prepare all students for careers by linking academic subjects to career themes/pathways. Students and teachers use experiential learning to make lessons come alive and learn through application. We have three SLCs planned for Cascade HS currently.
While we have had professional learning communities (PLCs) running for the past couple of years with a strong focus on data analysis, ownership, and sharing of instructional strategies we also feel the need for K-12 CCR alignment. The CCR journey has us thinking of the big picture--a transformational shift increasing collaboration around college and career readiness for teachers to best support students. These PLCs will further enable us to explore ways to connect core content with student interests and align to career pathways.
In an ever-changing world where careers evolve rapidly, students need to be prepared with transferable skills for success after high school. Our plan is to focus on providing a wide variety of college and career focused framework which allows for students to find their interest and research various careers even as they evolve through their K-12 schooling. Our goal is to expose, engage, and build student experiences that empower success through attitudes, actions, and achievement.
In partnership with Cascade HS Student Learning Communities, local businesses assist by providing advisors for teachers and mentors for students. This partnership creates a current and relevant curriculum and gives students access to guest speakers, mock interviews, college & career app day, college/industry visits, career shadowing, internships, and capstone projects.
