The Sports Cell of our department organized an Interclass Volleyball tournament as part of sports day celebration on 9th and 10th January 2020 at U C College Volleyball court. 

A Counseling Cum Motivational Talk was given to the 1st semester (2019 Admission) Regular Batch students by  Prof.K.E.Leelamma (Rtd.Teacher from Psychology Department ,U C College,Aluva) from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm on 17th January 2020 in MCA Block.The ultimate goal of this session was to change students profoundly on an emotional and/or mental level.

Mr. Surabhi P V  and Mrs.Amrutha Karthikeyan attended “One-day Hands-on Workshop on Internet of  Things (IoT)” conducted at Bharath Matha College of Commerce and Arts, Aluva organized by Department of Computer Science in collaboration with M.G. University, Kottayam on 23rd January 2020

The department conducted an educational tour for the Fifth Semester (2018 Admn Second Year Direct Batch) students from 23rd Jan 2020 to 26th Jan 2020.Thirty six students with a faculty accompanying family were the participants.The main purpose of the tour was to get the students closer to the natural environment. The destination of the tour was Malphe, Gokharna and Dandeli , which were the tourist cities of Karnataka. 

Mrs.Thanu Sudheesh attended the AICTE Training and Learning Academy Sponsored one-week Faculty Development Program  on Data Science organized by the department of computer applications in association with Division of Information Technology, CUSAT during  January 27-31, 2020.

Department organized various activities as part of Swachhta Pakhwada Campaign by AICTE on 31st January 2020.The activities were  

1)Swachhta Pledge Taking

2)Planting of Saplings

3)Slogan writing competition regarding water conservation

4)Poster making competition regarding forest conservation

5)”Best out of Waste Competition” 

Mr. Shine K George delivered a talk on “Artificial Intelligence and Media” in the program held in connection with the N. N. Sathyavrathan Memorial Lecture held at Kerala Media Academy Auditorium, Kakkanad on 1st February 2020.

Mrs. Divya P B attended a five-day workshop on Graphs and Complex Networks organized by Department of Computer Applications,  CUSAT during  3-7 February 2020

The placement cell in association with IIPC of MCA Department organized an Industrial Visit for all students on 3rd February 2020 to TCS,Kakkanad Infopark Campus,Kochi. 150 students along with 10 staff participated in this event.

Purpose of Industrial Visit : 

1. To interact with the students with actual industry personnel.

2. To make them aware of the industrial procedures required to enter into any company.

3. Interaction of students with the peoples of all important departments

The training head of TCS Ms.Sumi gave a brief account of the aim of the  company and goals and past history. In the first session students interacted with one of the employees of TCS, Mr.Allen Abraham Jacob and he gave a shower of account about the upcoming technologies and the use of computer science in various fields.The second section was handled by Ms.Roopa started with little bit of group works to understand students how a group work is effectively working in the software development sector.The sessions came to a close at 4.30pm.

Mrs.Veena Jose and Mrs.Sherna Mohan attended the five-day Hands-on Faculty Development Programme on Machine Learning data Visualisation using Python & MS Power BI (Funded by RUSA 2.0, MHRD) from 4th to 8th February 2020 at Rajagiri College of Social Sciences , Kalamassery, Kochi.

7 students participated in the Technical Fest “YANTRIKA 2K20” held at Naipunnya College,Pongam on 7th February 2020.

One among them secured 2nd  position in the event and received Rs.2000/- as the prize money

22 students participated in the Technical Fest “AWEGA 4.0” held at MES AIMAT, Marampilly, on  12/02/2020. 

One among them secured 1st  position in the event and received Rs.1000/- as the prize money.

Department organized various activities as part of Matribhasha Diwas Celebration to promote and preserve Mother Language as instructed by Hon'ble Human Resource Minister.The activities were:

1. Elocution (any Indian Language)

2. Essay Writing (Beauty of our language)

     The students from various batches participated in the events!!!

Apart from the placements in our college campus, students from our department also participated in campus recruitment drives organized by other colleges.On 20th February 2020,the UST Global Solutions conducted a a campus recruitment drive at FISAT and 38 students from Fifth Semester (2018 admn second year direct batch & 2017 admn regular batch) attended the drive in which Vijith P V,Gopika Madhu and Mariya Antony of fifth semester 2018 Second Year Direct Batch cleared Aptitude Test and Group Discussion.

On Friday 28th February 2020,we held our annual Resonance-Interhouse festival. The day was a wonderful celebration of the Arts and students embraced the opportunities to compete in their houses and share their talents with the rest of the department. The highlight of the day was our House competitions in Dance, Song, IDEE,JAM etc.

A big thank you to Mr.Arun Mohan(Student Convener) and Mrs.Sanila S (Association Cell-Convener 2020) congratulations on your leadership, assistance in organizing the day, and overall coordination of the event. A big thank you also to House Captains - Mr.Muhammed Shafi, Mr.Sreejesh Ravi, Mr.Muhammed Yaseen and Mr.Shibin George, who took on organizing music,dance etc in the houses.

IPSR Solutions conducted Campus recruitment drive on 2nd March 2020 at our department.Panel of three members from the company came for searching suitable talent by conducting student interviews for software developer,Business Analytics etc.

The programme was coordinated by Mrs.Divya P B & started with a warm welcome for IPSR team and participating students by Mrs.Lee Juliet George.This was followed by a small presentation by Mr.Jobin which gave detailed knowledge of the company. After that aptitude test was conducted, students qualifying the aptitude test were then taken for group discussion and was then interviewed personally by the respective HR person.

Around 210 students from various colleges participated in the campus interview drive, 60 students qualified the aptitude test.Selected students were then taken for group discussion and the final results were declared after the interview round was completed.

Mrs.Surabhi P V,Mrs.Reenu Mariam Cherian,Mrs.Thanu Sudheesh and Mrs.Ancy K Paul   attended a seminar on AICTE Quality Initiatives NITTTR and NEAT(Funded by AICTE) on 6th March 2020 at FISAT , Karukutty, Kochi.

A faculty training program was organized by the department for all faculty and non faculty members on 7th March 2020 from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm.Dr.K P Ouseph,IFS was the resource person.He discussed the loss of interest in studies for students in the recent year. The meeting came up with a solution to form quality circles among students and teachers.

Apart from the placements in our college campus, students from our department also participated in campus recruitment drives organized by other colleges.On 7th March 2020,the Armia Technologies conducted a a campus recruitment drive at College Of Engineering,Munnar and 38 students from Fifth Semester (2018 admn second year direct batch & 2017 admn regular batch) attended the drive.

Software development cell of the department conducted a webinar on “Web Development Framework and its Futures” on 26th May 2020 at 11.00am via Google Meet platform. Mr.Jithin Antony,Co-founder & Product Development Engineer,Dware Inc. and our alumni was the resource person.Around 120 participants attended the webinar.

The department celebrated the “World Environment Day 2020” on 5th June 2020 by organizing various activities to promote or encouraging awareness and action for the protection of the environment.The activities were:

1. Idea Presentation-Digital Art Contest

2. Plant a Sapling-A Lockdown Challenge

3.Online Environment Quiz Competition

Admission Committee 2020 conducted an online e-Poster design competition for college students on the theme ‘Post lock down precautions’. Competition was open online from 20/05/20 to 30/05/20. Entries accepted from around 15 colleges from Kerala. Mr.Ajmal Rahim of K.M.E.A College of Arts and Science , Mr.Gokul S Kumar of SB College ,Changanassery & Mr.Sharookhan B of Amrita School of Arts and Sciences, Kochi won the First ,Second & Third prizes respectively. Cash prizes was awarded to the winners.

Outreach & Women Empowerment Cell of the department organised a handover  function of refurbished computers to the inmates of Rukmini Smrithi Trust Orphanage , Kadungalloor on 25th June 2020. HoD Mrs.Divya P B started the function by welcoming the invited guests including college management, trust members and staff. Principal Dr.David Saj Mathew put his thoughts on the community outreach activities by the college during his keynote address. Dr. M I Punnoose emphasized the need for community outreach activities during the COVID pandemic period. Trust member Mrs.Lakshmi expressed her gratitude to the college for the support and consideration during this pandemic period. The meeting come to an end by 9.20 AM

As part of Centenary Celebrations at Union Christian College,Aluva our department started conducting a webinar Series.A webinar on “Data Science-Making Sense from Data” was organized on 10th July 2020 at 10.00am(1 Hour) via Google Meet platform.Mrs.Divya P B(HOD,MCA) and Mrs.Reenu Mariam Cherian,(Faculty,MCA) co-initiated the webinar.  

Mr.Praveen Sridhar,Machine Learning Engineer,Plaksha University was the resource person.1236 participants from inside and outside college attended the webinar.

  As part of Centenary Celebrations at Union Christian College,Aluva our department started conducting a webinar Series.An International webinar on “Introduction to Web Development with Django” was organized on 26th August 2020 at 11.00 pm(1 Hour)  via Google Meet platform.Mrs.Divya P B (HOD,MCA) and Mrs. Sherna Mohan co-initiated the webinar. Mr.Samson Lopez ,Head of Mobile Development,ONTO,UK was the resource person.About 78 participants from inside and outside college attended the webinar.

We are happy to feel that all the events went as per the schedule and that we were able to complete the events right in time.

A celebration was conducted at our department by our students on 5th September 2020,virtually.. The whole function was planned by 6th Semester Second Year Direct Batch (2018 admn) with Mrs.Thanu Sudheesh ,Faculty,MCA Dept. Students express their gratitude and appreciation for their teachers on this day. 

 As part of Centenary Celebrations at Union Christian College,Aluva our department started conducting a webinar Series.A webinar on “How big data tells you what you will buy” was organized on 13th September 2020 at 04.30 pm(1 Hour)  via Google Meet platform.Mrs.Divya P B (HOD,MCA) and Mrs. Sikha B Kadayath co-initiated the webinar. Mr.Pradeep Prabhakar ,IdaaS and Access Management Professional was the resource person.About 52  participants from inside and outside college attended the webinar.

Today our world is restricted to our homes. Best way to be safe is to keep ourselves and our homes clean. As part of 151st Gandhi Jayanthi celebrations, the department conducted a one-week cleanliness drive “CLEAN HABITAT SAFE HABITAT”.Students participating in this programme are suggested to Post photographs depicting areas within or around their own homes before and after undergoing a thorough cleaning.

As part of Centenary Celebrations at Union Christian College,Aluva our department started conducting a webinar Series.A webinar on “Leadership Talk and Interactive Session” was organized on 12th October 2020 at 03.00pm (1 Hour)  via Google Meet platform.Mrs.Divya P B (HOD,MCA) and Mrs. Surabhi P V co-initiated the webinar. Mr.K V Mathew,Founder Chairman of IBS was the resource person. About 80  participants from inside and outside college attended the webinar.

The batch of 2020-22 was formally inaugurated on 23 Nov 2020 at the MCA Department,Union Christian College,Aluva. The ceremony was attended by the new batch of students along with their parents,faculty, and staff of department via Online Mode.The ceremony starts with prayer service followed by Managers Message and  inaugural address by Dr.A V Alex, Director, MCA Department, Union Christian College, Aluva.

Due to covid restrictions,and the department conducting online classes Christmas celebrations have also moved online.But students and teachers have come together to make sure they keep the festive spirit online and kicking.The followings events were conducted and many of the students won prizes.
