The Texas Model established four general curricular content areas:
Interpersonal Effectiveness
Intrapersonal Effectiveness
Personal Health and Safety
Postsecondary Education and Career Readiness
In this section, it will be explained how we addressed intrapersonal effectiveness using writing prompts, lessons, and emotional intelligence challenges to address self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills.
The school counselors at Gonzalez Elementary believe that one critical component to dealing with peer conflict is to recognize the problem and learn strategies to resolve it. This way our students are able to improve the dynamics in peer conflicts and to respond to situations effectively.
To address the intrapersonal effectiveness of the peer conflict, our students were surveyed on whether they were able to identify at least two strategies to communicate effectively and resolve high-stress situations. The survey was generated from a Google Form. The students responded to an 8-item questionnaire. The questions assessed the student's understanding of peer conflict and if they were aware of problem-solving strategies they could use to navigate their friendships. The students had 10 minutes to complete the survey. Most participants completed the survey within 5 minutes.
The school counselors reviewed the results and shared them with the Counseling Advisory Council. Accordingly, the members of the Counseling Advisory Council identified conflict resolution as a campus-wide need for student interpersonal effectiveness. The data results determined a need to provide evidence-based coping strategies to our students. These efforts were guided by feedback from the counseling advisory council, our administrator recommendations, as well as feedback from our staff. The graphs below show student outcomes to the process aforementioned.

Levels of Self-Regulation
Learning Outcomes
At Gonzalez Elementary, students will focus on four essential self-regulation learning outcomes to strengthen their emotional intelligence. First, they will learn to accurately identify their emotions and recognize the triggers that lead to these feelings, a crucial aspect of self-regulation. Next, they will implement at least two effective self-regulation strategies, like deep breathing or positive self-talk, to manage stress and emotional challenges. Additionally, students will set personal goals to enhance their emotional responses, such as staying calm during disagreements. Finally, they will reflect on their behavior, assessing their self-regulation skills and identifying areas for improvement. These outcomes are designed to foster greater resilience, self-awareness, and emotional growth.
The Partnership Connection
At Gonzalez Elementary, our counselors are committed to building strong partnerships with community members, stakeholders, parents, and staff to enhance our comprehensive school counseling program. These collaborations are crucial for fostering our students' social-emotional and academic growth by providing resources and opportunities that wouldn’t be possible without this support. Through initiatives like Red Ribbon Week and Career Day presentations, our community partners have significantly enriched our students’ understanding of making healthy choices and exploring future career paths. Additionally, our students participate in acts of kindness, such as creating "get well" cards for patients at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance and supporting the Salvation Army Angel Tree program. These activities deepen their sense of empathy, goal-setting, and awareness of how their actions impact others. We believe that these partnerships bring essential perspectives and resources, motivating our students to overcome challenges and succeed. By maintaining strong connections with community stakeholders, we empower our students to grow into resilient and successful individuals.
