USE OF IMPLEMENTATION CYCLE
The Counseling Advisory Council Committee plays a pivotal role in the comprehensive school counseling program, aiming to address the campus' needs. It meticulously collects and evaluates data to gauge the campus-wide program's effectiveness. Utilizing the Parent Climate Survey and the Student Climate Survey, we craft goals to elevate social-emotional learning and other vital aspects of the comprehensive counseling program.
During the initial meeting of the year, the school counselors showcased the Counseling Scope and Sequence, data from Grizzly Student Check-In Meetings, guidance lesson topics, and the focus of individual and small group counseling. We also delved into Tier 2 and 3 counseling support systems, encompassing Response to Intervention and the process for referring students to the McAllen ISD Family Treatment Program.
As the school year drew to a close, all teachers were tasked with completing a Campus Needs Assessment, offering valuable insights into topics deemed beneficial to students. Subsequently, the Counselor Advisory Committee convened to scrutinize the assessment's findings. This led to identifying self-regulation techniques among PK-5th graders as an area for improvement. Consequently, tailored lessons were devised, concentrating on coping skills, calming strategies, and mindfulness techniques, subsequently integrated into our routine guidance sessions. Students are now regularly encouraged by staff to employ these techniques whenever conflicts arise during the school day.
