I realized that I inadvertently posted Reading - Unit 1 tests on the wrong Google calendar. The mistake has been corrected and all tests through September 2026 should now be showing up on the correct 4th Grade calendar. Some scores for the Unit 1 - Text Set 1 test were lower than I had hoped for. I will be reteaching the main concept of "Compare and Contrast" this week with the students. Students will get handouts and review sheets that will be taken up for points. This will be in order for them to, not only master the skill, but bring up lower Reading grades.

Week of September 7 - September 11:

• The Reading test previously scheduled for this week will be moved to next Tuesday, September 15th.

• Students will continue on in Unit 1 - Text Set 2 this week, reviewing the major skills: plot; plot-conflict; inferencing in plot-conflict.

• Students can study for this upcoming test by reviewing any handouts related to this chapter (should be kept in their portfolio folders under "Reading") and workbook pages: 34-35; 38-47.

Reading Literature: Plot; Plot Conflict; Summarize

Reading Informational Text: Author's Claim

Academic Vocabulary: 

accountable - means to be responsible

advise - means to give one’s opinion or to inform

desperately - means to try anything to change a hopeless situation

hesitated - waited or stopped, especially because of feeling unsure

humiliated - means to be made or feel ashamed or foolish

inspiration - a person or thing that stirs the mind, feelings, or imagination

self-esteem - to have respect for oneself

uncomfortably - means “uneasily”

Homework & Assessments:

• Homework: Read for 20 minutes each night; study for assessments. 

• Reading assessments will be given every 10 days and cover one text set (chapter). 

• Students will be assessed on skills and knowledge from the text set. They will also read a "cold read" text and answer corresponding questions.
