MBS 4th Grade - Social Studies

Week of December 8- December 12:

This week we will finish up with Unit 3 - Early Civilizations: India, China, and Greece - Chapter 1 - "Ancient India."

Students will receive a study guide for this assessment and be tested on the material on Wednesday, December 10th.

Chapter 1 - Ancient India

Framing Question:

What ideas, practices, and events developed across the vast Indian subcontinent several thousand years ago?

Objectives:

Explain how the geographic characteristics of the Indus River valley affected human civilization
Describe the emergence and achievements of the Indus River valley culture
Describe the roles of Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism in ancient India
Compare the Mauryan and Gupta empires
Understand the meaning of the following domain specific vocabulary: subcontinent, plateau, monsoon, domesticate, terra-cotta, seal, reincarnation, caste, nirvana, and stupa

Homework:

Homework will be assigned throughout the year.
Homework is worth 5 points, incomplete homework is 3 points, and no attempt or missing homework is 0 points.
Homework CANNOT be made-up for partial credit if the student was present for both days (ex: when homework was assigned and when homework was due).
Please keep up with your student's assignment pad.

Study Guides:

Questions for the Study Guides are pulled directly from the textbook. Study Guides are a review of the chapter and should be used to prepare for the upcoming test.
Since the Study Guide is a review, study guides for upcoming tests will be given a few days before the test.

Tests:

Questions on the Chapter Tests will be similar to the information on the Study Guides.
Tests will vary in points.
