August 2025 Update from MBCPL
Greetings from the Martinsburg Library!
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Friends of the Martinsburg Public Library (FoMPL) and the Martinsburg–Berkeley County community for your continued support during the Martinsburg Library’s ongoing construction project.
This major project includes replacing all components of the library’s HVAC systems with one modern, energy-efficient system that will seamlessly integrate the 1960s building and the 1980s addition.
Project Progress
Completed work:
· Safe removal of asbestos fireproofing by licensed contractors
· Removal of drop ceilings, ductwork, and the original air handler
· Removal by crane of old rooftop HVAC units, a satellite dish, and roof debris
· Relocation and upgrade of the main electrical panel to accommodate new HVAC
· Roof reinforcement with steel beams and installation of three new rooftop HVAC units
Current and future work includes:
· New ductwork to accommodate a Variable Air Volume system throughout the building
· New fireproofing
· Full removal and upgrade of IT cabling and security camera systems
· Installation of new alarm system
· New drop ceilings throughout the building and lighting upgrades on the top floor
We appreciate your patience and understanding during this important improvement to our building. Library priority is ensuring the safety of staff and patrons while continuing to deliver high-quality library services to the community. Learn more about those services on our website.
