The Friends of the Martinsburg Public Library was originally established in 2021 to support and advocate for our local library system. In 2025, the organization is being revitalized with new energy, updated goals, and a renewed commitment to serving the Martinsburg and Berkeley County community.
The Friends is a nonprofit, volunteer-run organization dedicated to supporting the Martinsburg–Berkeley County Public Libraries (MBCPL). Our mission is to strengthen and supplement library services through fundraising, advocacy, and community engagement.
We believe that a strong public library is the heart of a thriving community. That's why we work year-round to raise funds, promote library use, and organize programs that benefit readers of all ages. From hosting book sales and special events to expanding access to educational resources, our efforts help ensure the library remains a welcoming, well-supported space for everyone in Martinsburg and Berkeley County.
While we operate under MBCPL’s nonprofit status, we are an independent organization with our own officers and structure. We collaborate closely with library staff and administration, and all of our activities are rooted in a shared commitment to literacy, learning, and community connection.
Whether you’re a longtime supporter or new to the library, we invite you to learn more, get involved, and help us make a lasting difference in our community.
The Friends of the Martinsburg Public Library is led by a group of dedicated volunteer officers who guide the organization’s mission and activities. Our officers are local community members who bring a range of experience, enthusiasm, and a shared commitment to supporting public library services in Martinsburg and Berkeley County.
While we operate under MBCPL’s nonprofit status, the Friends is an independent group with its own structure and governance. Our officers work together to ensure our efforts are community-driven, transparent, and impactful.
We’re proud to serve the library and invite others to connect with us as we grow and strengthen this important work.
