Good Afternoon!
Action Items:
Toys for Tots: This year, we are thrilled to partner with the US Marine Corps Reserve to provide toys for children at Christmas! It is so simple to participate! Simply donate a new, unwrapped toy to the program. Donation boxes are available at school, and at both of our churches. When we fill our boxes, a representative will take those toys and bring another box for us to fill! The last day to donate is Wednesday, December 6. Thank you for your consideration of this service project!
Christmas Sale!
The Christmas Sale is Wednesday, December13
Set up is Tuesday, December 12, and we can use some volunteers to turn the gym into a shopper’s paradise!
We can use volunteers on December 13 to help our students make their selections!
We are still accepting donations of items that we can sell during the Sale.
We will send specific instructions for our student shoppers next week.
The Christmas Concert!
Our Concert will be Monday, December 18, at the Mater Dei Holy Name Church
We will provide supervision beginning at 6:30
Students in grades PK and K will meet in the Chapel in the Church
Band students will meet in the band room at school
Students in grades 1-8 will meet in the Mater Dei Event Center
Our handbells begin the prelude at 6:50, so it is vital that everyone is on time!
Our Final Rehearsal will be in the Mater Dei Holy Name Church on December 18, at 1:50. Sometimes, grandparents or other friends like to attend in the afternoon so they don’t have to fight the crowd or drive after dark. We will dismiss from the Church on our regular rotation, beginning with PK at 3:00.
For the concert in the evening, students should dress up or wear their uniform
We will keep those details coming as the date gets closer!
Upcoming Events:
Wednesday, December 6, is First Reconciliation at the Mater Dei Holy Name Church at 6:30 PM. Please keep our students who are receiving this sacrament for the first time in your prayers!

Encourage positive behavior
A large part of discipline should happen before your child misbehaves. Experts agree that to motivate good behavior, it helps to:
Create a loving, respectful relationship with your child.
Praise what your child does right.
Prevent repeated misbehavior by making changes. A child who is always cranky and slow in the morning, for example, may need an earlier bedtime

11-27-2023 Basketball, Art, and MORE!
Good Afternoon!
I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and we look forward to welcoming you back on campus tomorrow, Tuesday, November 28!
After School Art! Beginning tomorrow, students will have the opportunity to attend an After School Art Workshop, led by Mrs. Gentry, on Tuesday afternoons from 3:15 - 4:30.
The cost is $10 per student per session and the program will be run through our After School Program. This allows us to have secure check out procedures and covers the costs of snacks and materials. If you would like your student to attend, he or she will first report to the After Care rooms to check in and then will transition to the art room with Mrs. Gentry. Parents will need to enter the building through the south doors to pick up students, and sign students out.
Attention, 5th and 6th grade boys interested in basketball! We are so excited to welcome Jermaine Monroe as our coach! Coach Monroe will hold practices from 3:15 - 4:30, days of the week to be finalized.
Our first practice is tomorrow, Tuesday, November 28, in the Mater Dei Gym.
Coach Monroe will use GroupMe to communicate with parents. After practice tomorrow, I will add contact information to the GroupMe. If your student cannot attend tomorrow, but would like to play, no worries! Just email Mrs. Hillebert and we will make sure that you are added to the parent communications.
Athletes must have a physical on file and they should bring water bottles and practice clothes to each practice.

Thank you for all you do, God bless you, and have a great day!

Volunteering is empowering
Volunteering helps children develop skills and understand that they can make a difference. Any volunteer work is valuable, but research shows that work that helps strangers, rather than friends or family, may have the biggest effect. In one study, it improved kids’ feelings of self-worth for over one year.

Promote physical activity
Regular exercise helps children stay healthy and do better in school. But research shows that as early as age seven, children’s physical activity levels start to decline. To help keep your child fit and learning well:
Play active games.
Have contests. See who can do the most jumping jacks in 30 seconds.
Climb stairs. An average stair is 7.5 inches tall.

11-3-2023 Fall Bazaar - and More!
Good Afternoon!
I hope that you are having a wonderful day and I hope to see you at the Mater Dei Parish Bazaar this weekend! We can still use volunteers and it is so important to support Mater Dei Parish, which absorbs 60% of our school budget! Without our parish, we could not have a school.
Some quick info before the 10-Day Forecast:
Today we had our first Code Red Drill today. Our students did a wonderful job. I know the idea of a code red drill can be scary. We are very matter-of-fact and remind them that we drill for fire, tornado, and codes so we can be prepared for an emergency. I am sharing this information with you so that you will be aware in case your child tells you about it and seems unsettled.
Daylight Savings Time ends this Sunday and we “fall back” an hour! This is usually an easier transition than the spring. Fingers crossed, Knights!
Our first Girls Basketball Game is Monday, November 13, at 6:00 PM at the Balandran Activity Center. I will send a link when the schedule is available online.
Cold weather guidelines for Mater Dei: We will walk outside before school if the “feels like” temperature is 25+. We will play at recess if the “feels like” is 20+. After Care will allow outside play if it is 25+. We will adjust the time outside based on temperature. Please dress your student in appropriate outerwear.
