SmarterProctoring is an online test proctoring tool that helps faculty secure and deliver high-stakes Blackboard exams. Faculty can customize a proctored session with options for recording the student, locking down the browser, and verifying student identity with picture ID.
SmarterProctoring has identified a technical issue with their recent Version 3 update. As of February 2026, they have temporarily moved MATC to SmarterProctoring Version 2 to ensure a stable test proctoring experience. They anticipate that an improved Version 3 release will become available within 1-2 weeks.
For Instructors: No action is needed. No downtime occurred, and no changes to exam settings are necessary.
For Students: They will see a notice within the SmarterProctoring dashboard. While the interface may look slightly different, the testing process remains the same. See the Taking Tests with SmarterProctoring Video for an overview of the test-taking process in Version 2.
Refer to the SmarterProctoring Comparison Guide and Help Center for details.
Review and share the Student Instructions. This tool works slightly different from the student perspective in an Ultra Course. At this time, SmarterProctoring will take the student to the Ultra course, where the student will navigate to the test and click the "Inject Password" button to open the test.
