Elections will be held in accordance with Article VII of the Chapter Bylaws.
1. Call for candidates will be posted in March. Potential candidates need to indicate their willingness to serve in a position by filling out the Call for Candidate online form posted in March.
Any member in good standing can nominate themselves or other members in good standing for any available position. See officer descriptions for information about each position and the roles and responsibilities that each position requires. Members who are unsure of whether or not they will be able to commit to the position for the following year are encouraged to find other ways in which to positively impact Inspiro Honor Society and MAST@FIU.
2. Candidates are NOT allowed to campaign for their intended position.
Potential candidates are NOT allowed to share which positions they are running for before the day of the elections. Any member who indicates that they are running for a specific position will be disqualified from running for the position. This rule intends to prevent in-fighting, bullying, and "popularity contests" that often accompanies school elections.
Only members of the Executive Committee, the advisor, and the principal are knowledgeable of candidates.
Members can encourage other members to run for a position, but they are not to engage in activity that will prevent or discourage others from running for a position.
3. Candidates can announce their candidacy when announced for the elections. Members in good standing can nominate another member in good standing for a position that they believe the member would be qualified for. This nomination should be on the day of elections, during the elections meeting in April. Nominees that accept candidacy will be added to the ballot and will be considered a candidate.
4. Candidates are allowed a 2 minute stump speech that should be designed to indicate their willingness to serve, highlight their qualifications for the position, and provide a glimpse of their intentions and plans for their year in office.
5. Candidates will be encouraged to answer caucus questions by the membership during the designated time. The caucus time for each candidate will not exceed 3 minutes.
Sample caucus questions will be provided to the membership. All members are encouraged to ask caucus questions of the candidates.
6. Elections will be held through secret ballot. Every member in good standing will have a ballot, which they will sign for, and turn in to the NHS ballot box. The advisor and the treasurer will count the ballots and notify the executive committee of the election results.
7. Election results will be published through normal means of communication to all members once the election results have been ratified.
