Mail and packages are delivered to the Residence Halls daily (excluding weekends and federal holidays). Specific mailroom hours are posted on each mailroom door. Please note that Residence Hall mailrooms are not open during College break times (including Thanksgiving, winter semester break, and spring break). Mailbox information is provided to resident students at the beginning of each academic year. The mailroom and its services are available for on-campus, residential students only. Mailroom hours vary by semester. Check the flyer posted on the mailroom door.
The mailroom does not sell stamps or shipping materials. The mailroom cannot process outgoing mail. To find the closest USPS collection box or post office, please use this link: Find USPS Locations.

Any mail that is addressed to MassArt's main address (621 Huntington Ave) will take approximately a week in addition to normal mailing times, as it must first work through the campus mail system. You may seek to avoid this by not writing "MassArt" or "Massachusetts College of Art and Design" anywhere on your packages and/or letters.
Every resident is assigned a mailbox number and mailbox combo (three unique numbers) via email when you move into the residence halls at the beginning of the academic year. If you move residencies at any point during the academic year, you will be assigned a new mailbox in your residence hall. Some mailboxes are shared with roommates and/or suitemates.
Check your mail frequently. Residents are not notified when letter mail arrives. Small enough packages will be stored in your mailbox. If your mailbox is overflowing with letter mail, you will be notified. Any mail that is not picked up at the end of the academic year will be returned to sender through the USPS.
Instructions for how to open your mailbox
Spin the dial right several times to clear it.
Turn the dial left until you hit your first number.
Then, turn the dial right completely around, 360 degrees. You will pass your second number doing this.
Continue turning right until you reach your second number.
Turn the knob left directly to your third number.
You should feel a springy pull from the dial. Gently turn the dial right and you should feel the tension from the spring.
Pull the door open from the knob.
To relock the knob, close the door and turn the dial to the right and release. The spring action should lock the mailbox.
During standard academic operating hours, the mailroom processes mail every day but Sunday. Normal processing time is approximately two business days. The following times of the year are exceptions to the normal two day processing time:
College Closures
Residence Hall mailrooms are closed when the college is closed including all college breaks and intersessions, federal and state holidays, and inclement weather closings. You can review break periods on the academic calendar, linked here. While mail and packages may be delivered to the building during college closures, it may not have been processed and/or sorted. If the mailroom is closed, you will not be able to retrieve your package or mail until the mailroom re-opens, so please plan accordingly.
Summer Recess
The mailroom has limited hours during the summer recess. If you are a residential student living on campus during the summer recess, your mail will be processed as normal. If you are not a residential student living on campus during the summer, it is highly suggested you do not address your mail to the residence halls. If it is addressed to the residence halls in error, please reach out to us.
Fall Move-In
Packages will be delivered to individual rooms prior to residents moving in. Following the move-in period, packages will be processed as usual. If you believe you are missing a package, please contact us.
Same Day Delivery and Special Handling
Additionally, the Mailroom is not responsible for processing packages that are shipped to the campus using Same Day Delivery the day it was shipped. Time-sensitive items like medication or school supplies are processed within the two to three business day window. It is recommended that time-sensitive or urgent deliveries are sent to either your home address or a UPS or Amazon storage locker. The closest Amazon locker is located at 7/11 in Brigham Circle.
Some vendors will mark the package as delivered before it actually arrives. If after five business days you do not receive a notification from the mailroom team, please ensure the package was delivered by the vendor and refer to the misaddressed and lost package policy.
Please note that the mailroom does not have the ability to hold packages that need refrigeration including packages from Hello Fresh and other meal planning vendors.
Packages that cannot fit into your mailbox will be routed to the Tree House lockers through the Qtrak system. Once your package has been routed, you will receive an email with a code to pick up your package. Packages are kept in the lockers for one month after being routed. After one month, the package will be routed to the Tree House mailroom for pick up. The one month the package was stored in the lockers counts towards the four month window as defined in the misaddressed package policy.
If for any reason you receive a package that does not belong to you, please contact us.
If you are not receiving emails from our system, first check your junk folder. If the emails are not there, your email address may need to be updated in our records. Please contact us so we can support you.
Oversize Packages
Oversize packages are stored in the mailroom of the building in which they were delivered. Once the package has been processed, you will receive an email with instructions on how to pick up the package from the mailroom. You must go to the mailroom during standard operating hours and speak with a mail assistant. If you are unable to collect the package during standard hours, please contact us to coordinate a time.
The mail team is not responsible for misdirected or lost packages prior to them being received by the office. All packages with a tracking number are scanned into the package tracking system upon arrival. In the event that your package is not scanned in, it may not have been received. Unfortunately, vendors will accidentally deliver packages to incorrect locations, fail to deliver them, or lose them. Please contact the vendors directly for shipping and delivery support.
Tracking support by vendor
The mailroom is not responsible for misaddressed packages. A misaddressed package includes those without a first or last name, a nickname instead of the name on file, the absence of a name, or other incorrect address information. If you would like to update your preferred name in our records, please reach out to us.
Packages that are misaddressed will be held for four months. After four months, the mail team will make every attempt to contact the recipient with a final reminder about the package. If the package is not picked up, it will be returned to sender (RTS) if possible. Some vendors, like Amazon, do not offer return to sender services in which case the package will be destroyed and disposed of.
If you know you are either graduating or moving out of the residential halls, please contact us with a forwarding address if you would like your mail forwarded. If a forwarding address does not exist, the misaddressed mail policy will apply and your items will be kept for four months.
If you are unable to pick up your remaining mail and would like a friend to pick it up for you, please email us at RHMail@massart.edu and CC your friend’s email address. Your friend will need to present a photo ID when they arrive at the mailroom.
The following email format should be used:
Subject: Authorization for Mail Pick Up
Body: I no longer live in the residential halls but have remaining mail to pick up. I give [insert friend’s name] authorization to pick up my mail. Their email address is cc’d on this email. I understand that once the mail has been picked up, the mailroom is no longer responsible for it.
If you are on a leave of absence from the College, your mail will be forwarded to the address on file in your student account.
