Clients receiving regular massage whilst pregnant may make the mother more aware of her own body.
Our therapists may start as soon as the 2nd Trimester which is normally from twelve weeks of pregnancy.
Pregnancy massage may be of enormous benefit not only to the mother also for their baby. Our therapist work through treatments while many changes happen with the body putting pressures on joints, ligaments and organs often causing discomfort and pain. Pregnancy massage helps alleviate aches and pains and other common health problems associated with pregnancy and reduces stress levels. There are also endorphins released by mother during massage which pass to baby and at times baby will kick and move in response to massage.
We like to help our clients to have reduced emotional stress and a sense of well being encouraging the release of oxytocin which is a pain reducing hormone providing vital relief of pain during labour and birth.
Improving oxygenation of soft tissues and muscles, better sleep, reduces edema (swelling of the joints), relieving muscle tension and headaches, reduces back pain, joint pain and may reduce anxiety, using a Swedish Massage technique.
The reason we chose the Swedish Massage technique, as it addresses many common discomforts associated with the skeletal and circulatory changes brought on by hormone changes whilst one is pregnant.
It is known that if women receiving bi-weekly massages for over a five to 6 week period, hormones such as nor epinephrine and cortisol may be reduced. Dopamine and serotonin levels may increase.
