Choral Handbook Form for Parents & Guardians
.
Be a seventh or eighth grade student at the Middle School
Be currently involved full time in choral ensembles at the Middle School
Sign up for an audition time on Mr. Murphy's door in the first few weeks of school
Students will enter Mr. Murphy's room and will be asked questions about their musical experiences, and about their hobbies and interests
We will perform a quick vocal warm up together
We will sing through "America" as a group one time
Students will take turns singing "America" acapella
We will then vocalize and test your vocal range
To end, Mr. Murphy will play short musical phrases on the piano and students will echo the patterns back on the neutral syllable "Doo"
You can be nervous to audition and that is natural. I have had to audition many times in my musical journeys and know the same feelings you might feel. Here are a few words of advice to consider as you prepare your audition.
Get a good night's sleep the night before your audition
Practice your audition materials ahead of time using the provided practice tracks. (Also remember to sing your music without the practice tracks)
Sing your audition for a friend or parent to get your nerves out
Know I am rooting for you to do your absolute best! The audition is a way for myself to here your individual voice and interact with you!
Below you will find the audition song, practice tracks and the audition form that I use to rate your audition. You are encouraged to send me an email to set up a meeting to go over your audition results if you are not accepted into the ensemble. Any student may request to see their audition form. I am happy to discuss your audition with you and provide feedback as this is a learning experience.
I encourage you to use this practice track as a reference. You should practice with the track and without the track as the audition is acapella.
This track should be used for changed/changing voices. If your voice is changing and you would like a different key, send me an email! You should practice with the track and without the track as the audition is acapella.
