Mechanicsburg Middle School
The Select Ensemble is the auditioned ensemble for the Mechanicsburg Middle School Choral Program. The ensemble is under the direction of Mr. Murphy and accepts auditions from seventh and eighth grade students in the fall.
Rehearsals take place before the school day Monday, Wednesday, and occasionally Friday from 7:45am - 8:30am.
The ensemble performs at choral sharing day, faculty meetings, winter and spring concerts, and will tour to local venues in the community.
Being involved in Select Ensemble does not just entail musicianship, it is showing leadership in the choral and school community at MMS. This includes being an upstanding citizen, maintaining good academic standing, following the schools code of conduct, and participating fully in curricular choral ensembles. Members are held to a high standard but also have high support and resources to achieve this standard of musicianship and character.
Occasionally, members complete assignments outside the school day. These can include listening examples, adding in musical markings, recording yourself singing a musical passage, and more. These assignments are designed to maximize in-person rehearsal time and allow Mr. Murphy to hear the progress of each individual singing voice.
The student leadership team of the Select Ensemble is comprised of officers voted upon be the members of the ensemble. These officers help to lead the ensemble through various tasks including taking attendance, helping to set up the rehearsal room, passing out music, and so much more! This team of awesome individuals helps the ensemble to run in a swift and positive manner. A Select Ensemble Officer wears a maroon flower at our choral concerts.
