Student Lanyards
Students will be provided with a Student Lanyard at the start of Sixth Form. This lanyard must be worn at all times. This is an important safeguarding procedure, and students will not be permitted on to the Sixth Form site without it. During the school day Sixth Form students enter and exit through Reception and must tap the doors with their lanyards for access. Please be polite to our Receptionist.
Mobile Phone Use in Sixth Form
Mobile phone use is not allowed around the school site in line with the rest of the school. Mobile phones are not permitted in lessons unless you are asked to use them by your teachers and should remain in your bags. You may use your mobile phone in the Sixth Form centre.
Careers Advice and Guidance
The school has a careers coordinator and students can request an interview with the coordinator at any point. The procedure and advice and guidance for applying to university is done through tutor time and a series of lectures, conferences and talks. There is a careers information portal on the Sixth Form area of the school student intranet that all students can access for further information about a range of career and university options.
Oxbridge and Medicine Group
We run a dedicated group to provide information and support with applications to Oxbridge, medicine, dentistry and veterinary studies. Students applying to these highly competitive courses are identified early and are invited to join this programme. This group meets regularly to discuss and share research and experiences as well as receive specific help with their personal statements and interviews.
Y12 Work Experience Week
Year 12 students will complete a week of work experience after the Summer assessments in July. We believe what you gain from this in terms of character building, experience, contacts, general engagement and fun are fundamental. It is a compulsory part of your time in Sixth Form.
School Email Address
All students will have their own school email address. If you are a current Year 11 student your school email address will continue. If you are a new student your school email address will be set up in September.
Chromebooks
Sixth Form has a supply of Chromebooks and these can be signed out/in from the Sixth Form Admin office.
Google Classroom
Each student will be invited to join a Google Classroom for their subjects and their tutor group. Teachers will set home learning via this format and will share resources and lesson updates.
MyChildAtSchool (MCAS)
We use the MyChildAtSchool (MCAS) web portal to deliver reports, show timetables, show rewards and consequences and to publish attendance and assessment data.
Financial Support - 16 - 19 Bursary
Students living in households with a total household income of £29,000 or less per year can apply for a 16 - 19 Bursary towards study costs. This can be applied for in September and further information is on the school website.
Free School Meals
Please contact our school Registrar - registrar@maschool.org.uk - for further information
Catering & ParentPay
Our students purchase food from our restaurant using a cashless system with their fingerprint. This allows your child to use a ParentPay account that you have already put money into, removing the need for students to carry money. If you are a current Year 11 student your ParentPay details will continue. If you are a new student this will be set up in September.
Travel to MAS
At Matthew Arnold we encourage environmentally sustainable travel options. Many of our students walk or cycle to
school. Bikesheds are provided for students wishing to cycle. For those further afield, there are currently Oxfordshire County Council funded buses from Fyfield, Farmoor, Appleton, Southmoor, Besselsleigh, Tubney, Filchampstead, Eaton, Netherton, Kings Lock and Wytham. Application for travel on these buses goes through Oxfordshire County Council who are responsible for all school transport. They can be contacted on this email address: mainstream.schooltransport@oxfordshire.gov.uk. There are commercial public buses from Kennington and Oxford city centre that all drive along Arnolds Way - 35A, 3S, 4A ad 63S.
