Weekly Update 9/11/26
Today is the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Students watched a video about how 9/11 became a day of service in homeroom. While there are many lessons learned from that dreadful day, we want students to not take their freedoms and rights for granted, and learn that serving others helps the community and their own wellbeing.
We also held our class meetings and other student trainings this past week. The presentation given to the students is provided below. Student trainings included topics such as bullying, harassment, hazing, vaping, drug and alcohol use, mental health, and healthy relationships. These trainings are designed to complement instruction that is already taking place in students' various classes.
Drop-off & Pick-up
The parking lot in the front of the school is used by buses. Cars driving through this parking lot and driveway pose a serious hazard to our students who are getting on and off the buses, and walking to their various after school activities.
If you are dropping off or picking up your student from school, please do so by following the flow of traffic and utilizing the back doors of the middle school.
We understand that there have been some delays due to the timing of the signal at the Union Road entrance/exit. We are working with our School Resource Officer and the Department of Transportation to remedy this issue. Keep in mind that our buses have been running on time and using them can help you avoid the traffic delays experienced by driving your student to school.
Safety Drills
We will be conducting our annual evacuation drills next week. New York State will only permit us to conduct one such drill each day, so expect a few fire drills next week and the week after, weather permitting. We will be conducting six (6) evacuation drills in the next two weeks.
We will also be practicing two (2) lockdown drills in the coming months. We will send out more information about the timing of these drills as those date approach.

21st Century Program/YWCA
We are pleased to announce Maryvale Intermediate and Middle Schools are partnering with YWCA Western New York to provide an extended learning program through the US Department of Education 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) grant.
The program is provided free of charge to all families. The program will operate Monday through Thursday, from 2:15pm to 5:45pm for Middle School students. More information and the registration link will be released later this month.
